Aspen Commits $60K To Adult Education School
The Adult Education School [AES] has received $20,000 from Aspen Bermuda Limited [ABL], marking “the first of two similar donations as part of a three-year commitment to the school.”
A spokesperson said, “The Adult Education School announces that it has received $20,000 from Aspen Bermuda Limited, the first of two similar donations as part of a three-year commitment to the school.”
Donna Daniels, the Executive Director of AES, said, “For over 10 years, Aspen Bermuda Limited has supported the work of AES in providing alternative education to young and adult learners who needed a second chance to improve their educational qualifications or to simply learn to read.
“Aspen’s new commitment will enable us provide services to a specific group of individuals – the women served by two other important non-profits in Bermuda, Teen Services and the Women’s Resource Centre.
“It is a well-established fact that educating women improves not only their lives but the lives of their children and thereby the whole community.”
Gerald Simons, Chairman of the Board of AES, said, “AES is grateful to Aspen for their support especially given the human and economic impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the community.
“Their generosity is a fine example of how international businesses in Bermuda enable our community to grow and thrive.”
Executive Director Elaine Butterfield of the Women’s Resource Centre said, “The Women’s Resource Centre is grateful to partner with the Adult Education School to empower our clients by attaining their GEDs. It is an excellent complement to our Education and Awareness Programme.
“We look forward to working together over the next three years and beyond as we improve the lives of the persons we serve.”
Executive Director Michelle Wade of Teen Services/Teen Haven said, “Single parenthood is a challenge under the best of circumstances. An unplanned pregnancy can often disrupt one’s education.
“However, the opportunity to resume one’s education in the safe and supportive environment at the Adult Education School can be a lifeline for a young woman and her children.
“Teen Services/The Haven is pleased to collaborate with the Adult Education School ensuring that young women reach their highest potential.”
Adam Barboza, Chairman of the Charities Committee of Aspen, said, “We at Aspen Bermuda Limited have long recognized that we have duty to actively support worthy causes in Bermuda.
“For many years we have had a relationship with the Adult Education School, Teen Services/Teen Haven and the Women’s Resource Centre and we are happy to see them work together.
“We all want a better Bermuda for everyone.”
