Video: Counter Protest Makes Appeal At Rally

May 2, 2021

Carla Smith attended today’s event as a ‘counter protester’, explaining that she feels that people should think of the families who who lost someone, with Ms Smith appealing for people to “use the other P and pray for this island.”

Ms Smith told Bernews, “There are people who have lost family members, and for them to come out and protest because they can’t do something, how about those family members who don’t have family members to share that with now? So they should think about that before they did this protest, and I say use the other P, pray for this island.”

Ms Smith noted that a close family member just passed away this week, so it hit home for her, and she urged people to “abide by the rules,” adding that, “If you can do the Premier’s job, apply for it.”

  3. Seriously says:

Good for her! The selfishness of some people. Small sacrifices for the greater good. If you got vaccinated we could open up the economy and get back on with life. The selfishness and ignorance is truly astounding.

“Small sacrifice?” Injecting oneself with an unapproved cocktail is not a small sacrifice. Respect peoples’ choice.

Ms. Smith I applaud you immensely you are 100% correct in all that you said. Thank you and prayer is the key as unfortunately these individuals will do as they like. Very sad and discouraging for the rest of us who want to get back to some form of normalcy. My prayers go out to your family on your loss

  11. Thank you Ms. Smith says:

Thank you for speaking your mind on the issue.

What we are seeing here is shameful entitled behavior–that is similar to that of the folks that broker the rules and broke this second wave upon us.

Thank you for caring enough to go out and tell your story during the time of your mourning.

Those of use that care–are very sorry for your loss.

  12. Lili says:

Ms. Smith—thank you for saying what really needed to be said. If others had known you would be there, I think there are many of us who would have been happy to stand with you, myself included. Bless you!

  13. Mark says:

That “protest” was a stain on our history and just highlighted how many clueless and selfish people we have here. Education is paramount to solve half the problem but i dont know how we teach people to care about others.

  14. Common Sense says:

There is nothing new with people being required to have vaccines.
Smallpox: Bermuda required people to have the vaccine for entry to Bda in the 1970s and before. This included returning residents.
Measles: Most schools in N America and the UK require students to have had 2 doses of the measles vaccine before entry.
Yellow Fever: Many S American and African countries demand a certificate of vaccination against Y Fever for people coming from countries where Y Fever is endemic, and some African countries demand it from all countries.
Meningitis: Saudi Arabia demands that visitors going to Mecca at the time of the Haj have the meningococcal vaccine.
The reason for these requirements was to prevent the spread of these diseases to the residents of these countries. I guess that Bermuda wants to limit Covid, especially variants coming into our shores. Sounds like a good idea to me!

  15. Common Sense says:

All people who are at risk of severe illness or death from Covid (eg seniors or those with comorbidities diabetes etc) should have the vaccine. They need to protect THEMSEVES and not rely on others. At risk people who should not have the vaccine (risk of anaphylaxis etc) should get their close contacts vaccinated if they care enough about them. It does seem that there are many who will not get vaccinated

  16. Zina Sutton says:

Ms. Carla Smith is a great example of character and integrity. So sorry for the loss of your loved one…you are 100% correct and not alone in your stance.
