‘Time For Entire Community To Work Together’

May 2, 2021

Noting that we “live in a democratic society, which entitles all Bermudians the right to have our voices heard,” Premier David Burt said that now is the “time for the entire community to work together and unite to do what is necessary to move Bermuda beyond this pandemic.”

When asked for any comment in relation to today’s car rally, Premier David Burt said, “We live in a democratic society, which entitles all Bermudians the right to have our voices heard. Sadly, there are less collective voices in Bermuda due to persons who have not survived Covid-19 with 16 residents passing away in April.

“The restrictions contained in Public Health Regulations have been very effective in reducing local transmission of the virus; however, there remains a risk of new imported variants setting back our collective progress.

“Supervised quarantine has been very effective in many countries that have eliminated local transmission, and those countries have returned to normal holding large events without masks. This is not a time for individual agendas but a time for the entire community to work together and unite to do what is necessary to move Bermuda beyond this pandemic.

“The Government has laid out a plan for Bermuda to return to normal, and we’re confident that the overwhelming majority of Bermudians support the difficult decisions that must be taken for our schools and businesses to reopen safely once and for all.”

Yes premier Burt, most Bermudians are working together to eliminate this pandemic and we respect the way you are playing a major role in its future eradication. But remember when it’s all over, not every white Bermudian is an oligarch or part of the status quo. It is also at this time that you must encourage all Bermudians to work together, led by you.

      let all do are part

    • D says:

      Lol. You’re delusional.

    • Allen says:

I believe that’s what the premier just said. He said ALL Bermudians. How did you get WHITE out of what he said.

      • yeah right says:

The issue (I believe) stems from the premier and the plp’s history of racial division. Suddenly he needs everyone to pull together to fix something and a big group are expected to say okay we forgive you for basing your politics on race and emotion for the last 22 years even though those 22 years put us in such a deep financial hole that our grandchildren will never see the end of it. For 22 years we have suffered sub par governance and offered thoughts and advice only to be shouted down. Suddenly it is about ALL Bermudians? Sorry.

        • Observer says:

Yes thanks for the simple explanation, some people are flitting through life with blinkers on!

        • Question says:

          Exactly.

        • Wow says:

You hit the nail on the head!

This comment should be mandatory reading for ALL!

  2. Premier Burt it’s amazing that you can speak directly to what you have witnessed through the car bike rally but you blatantly refuse to speak to our demands of Truth and justice. Conspiracy theory is one thing but scientific facts about what is available in the fight to end this pandemic is readily available for us to discuss. Your government is chosen to ignore the many questions and information that has been emailed and you have blatantly ignored the majority of the community, as Premier and health Minister, the both of you have continued to claim the vaccine is the only way out, this is a blatant lie and you continually are determined to have two sets of rules, one for the vaccinated and one for the unvaccinated, the CDC is a laughing stock in the USA and this is who you claim to follow, when the majority of the states doesn’t adhere to most of what the CDC guidelines recommend, because they know it’s a plandemic and refuse to continue to follow the lies, Bermudians are tired of the falsehoods, why aren’t your government providing the KEMH with the Regeneron Antibody Cocktail, in order to stop the covid-19 pandemic disease. When your government is ready to answer Real questions and have the Real conversations you know where to find us.

    • Burt's Beard says:

By my manly whiskers! You sure tell it as it is but hey, 30-6.

    • Unbelievable says:

You are showing your ignorance. If you’re claiming this is all a “plandemic” designed by shadowy forces (so dumb) why are you advocating for this cocktail and not the vaccine? Your cocktail has the same emergency authorization as the vaccine does.

    • sandgrownan says:

Wow. Just wow. Even by your standards that’s some pretty heavy duty derp. A singularity of stupid. A vortex of dumb.

      Plandemic? Really?

I want to know who your dealer is, because I’d like a big bag of whatever you are smoking.

    • Pixie says:

@duane your are correct. This govt hasn’t answered many questions that needs to be answered. My question is to all the people who got vaccinated, why are you still wearing a mask since it’s supposed to protect you from this virus and did any of you researched what this vaccine has in it. Just asking

      • Toodle-oo says:

They’re still wearing masks because it’s mandated that they must regardless of their vaccination status.
The composition of the Pfizer vaccine (the one we use here) has been listed and made public many times. Where have you been ?
        Any other questions ?

      • Hudson says:

I wear a mask to protect you because you could get sick from me. I am vaccinated, yet I can be a carrier of the virus, unknowingly infecting others while I remain asymptomatic. I wear a mask to respect you – to protect you even if you don’t want to protect yourself.

    • Vote says:

I know you mean well but it’s far from the majority. Furthermore When you try to knock the CDC you sound like you need meds.

In the end if you don’t like the ruling government why don’t you run to be elected next election, so the majority as you claim will give you their vote!

      • Question says:

The CDC has dropped the ball on this regularly. It’s more a political organ of government than an independent scientific body. It spews the virtue-dogma of the day.

    • Say it louder!! says:

      Amen!!!!!!

    • Burt's Beard says:

PS. I forgot to ask: Duane, have you have not filed a PATI request(s) for records? That would legally require the Government to respond in writing.

See “Making a PATI request for records,” on the ico dot bm website.

Whatever you do, do not pass this information around to others as that would flood the Government with requests.

    • Dan says:

Trump is the biggest laughing stock of the U.S.A not the CDC.

  3. widea wake says:

    follow the rules people

  4. Ringmaster says:

“Now is the time”? Is the Premier that much out of touch with the public? Responsible Bermudians and residents have been complying with the rules since last year. Concentrate on those who haven’t especially the quarantine breakers. Has anyone appeared before the courts and been punished, and what exactly are the penalties. It seems only those who have been caught breaking curfew are prosecuted, and they don’t sound like virus spreaders.

    • sandgrownan says:

Exactly. Fine those who can take the vaccine but choose not to. Why are the rest of us subjected to restrictions because of the sheer stupidity of some Bermudians.

    • Question says:

Burt was the one who criticized the police for going too hard on covid lawbreakers and then softened the laws. Before long, we had 30 dead.

  5. Craig says:

Mr. Burt with the utmost respect to you and the Bermuda Government the rally is about Democracy and the right to chose. The right to choose is ingrained in the Bermuda constitution. The rally was in no way to solidify anyones personal agenda if was a call to arms of persons who feel that they have the right to choose their path. The protesters do not make light of anyones death as they are sympathrtic to all those who have globally passed.

In democracy your views and the view of the people maybe different. You can try to steer clear of the questions the persons with ledgitimate concerns asked or you can continue on your path or take sone time to think and move with caution.

So has their not been people that have passed whilst they have had two injections from the various. Does the injection stop you from passing on the various or even contracting the virus. Were the vaccines rushed to market and not thoroughly tested these are just a few questions I agree that Bermuda has to move forward collectively however that does not mean the government or any government has the right to unsurp peoples person rights or freedoms. The right to choose is all that those persons want not personal agendas as you state. It would seem that with covid governments have taken a totalitarian approach which is wrong as the govermrnts are the people so please stop with rhetoric. Yes the country must open but it does not have to be all about a vaccine from unproven science. I have watched the world governments systematic begin the process of creating fear, creating mass hysteria which leads to anxiety, which leads to acceptance and than total compliance, that my good friend is not the principles of democracy.

Please listen to their concerns with an open mind and give thrm the same respect that you give to your trusted advisers. They are not all conspiracy theorist or crackpots or fake news spreaders some in that grouo have spent months on reasearching and studying covid 19 so their voices should be heard.

CRC England but still Bermudian what affects those on the front lines of Democracy have my support The Freedom of free will that is democracy my good friend.

  6. Burt's Beard says:

Ever notice that when politicians fail, they always ask everyone to work together or come together? My mouth will never admit to what my whiskers know.

  7. DeVeene says:

You and your government have not been transparent. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool ALL of the people all of the time. Do not take Bermudians for fools who cannot put all of the pieces together. This plandemic will all come crumbling down as the almighty God reveals the hidden secrets and lies that have been told to the people.Fear God. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the almighty God. Truth will out.

    • Burt's Beard says:

By my whiskers! Have you not filed a PATI request(s) for records? Opps, that would legally require the Government to respond in writing. Shhh, don’t let anyone know what I suggested!

See “Making a PATI request for records,” on the ico dot bm website.

  10. trufth says:

“This is not a time for individual agendas-” -Burt

Wrong! My personal health IS my, and only my, “individual agenda.” You have NO say in my personal choice.

You better find a Plan B because those that DON’T want the non approved vax will not be getting it no matter how long you continue to think you can change minds. Work with what you are given.

  11. In Mark's Opinion says:

They have the majority of our people mentally. This is not about some virus. They tell us their is over a 99% survival rate of those who had a positive PCR test but yet all these controls over what it is to be human. People still don’t see that the jab is to see how many are stupid and how many are not. They are building a global matrix around us where evil is good. I pray that more will wake up from this media induced fear.

    • Hudson says:

It’s called Darwinism. Survival of the fittest. Those that choose to get vaccinated get a ‘head start’ on safety. It’s that simple.

  12. fers says:

It is not fair that the Covid test taken at the airport has doubled to $300.00 ( no explanantion given) and now you want people to fork out for a 2 week vacation at their expense…where is the compassion….there is none. Kids will be returning from school etc and now you have to pay to stay….NOT FAIR….get your kids home before June 6th peeps…..it will be cheaper in the long run!!

  13. Pixie says:

    Smdh such hypocrisy

  14. Red Pill says:

We can not work together if you are being very secretive.

  15. Mercy says:

Great Job, Premier!! Considering the circumstances, you are doing a fine job handling this pandemic.

My sincere condolences to the families that have lost love ones in this pandemic.

A huge thank you to the medical team and volunteers that give the best of themselves each day to serve Bermuda, despite the challenges and hardships they may be facing in your own lives.

Let’s stop grumbling and try to be a blessing in someone’s life and work together. Imagine, if everyone went out of their way to be a support and a blessing to someone else, how much better off our Bermuda island would be.

  16. Dunn juice says:

There’s a fine line between confidence and cockiness..
Your not on the confident side,, lose the ego papa

  17. Dan says:

I don’t understand when people talk about media induced fear. Bermuda has 30 dead. The problem is people being selfish. Just because your ok and you think it’s a 99 percent survival rate it doesn’t matter.

    • In Mark's Opinion says:

Do you realize approximately 50 or more people die every month in Bermuda. One day we all will get sick and die. That’s the way it has always been. All the media talk about people being selfish has got people repeating it. How is people being selfish when every single one of us have lost someone to death. And I know and everyone else knows it is at 100 percent rate we are all going to die. What I see among us, is evil controlling the living, so now everyone sick until proven healthy and everyone guilty until proven innocent.

      • Sandgrowam says:

That sounds like the basis for Christianity to me

      • Hudson says:

You are absolutely right. But to be clear, I’m not ready to go just yet, nor am I ready for my parents to go, so I chose to get vaccinated and so did they. If you’re ready to go, or if you’re ready to see you’re loved ones die, then don’t get vaccinated, and don’t follow simple precautions. I challenge you to speak to a person struggling to breath and needed to be ventilated and tell them that it’s just “media talk”… hey they were going to die anyway right?

      • DownDeRoad says:

Your maths are off. 480 people died in Bermuda last year. That averages to 40 a month so having 17 people die in one month to one disease seems like a problem. Would you be so callous if 17 people died in traffic accidents in one month or there were HIV deaths? Just because someone is older and they die from COVID doesn’t mean we value their life and what life they had left as being able to be thrown away because ‘they were going to die anyway.”

  18. Common Sense says:

I’m not sure about herd immunity. It seems very hard to convince parts of the community to realize the value of getting the vaccine. I think that everyone will either get the vaccine or get the disease. The vaccinated people will come through this largely unaffected, while the unvaccinated vulnerable will face more serious illness and potential death. The young healthy unvaccinated will likely come through this without much serious illness, but will be a risk to their unvaccinated relatives and friends

    • Ringmaster says:

So called herd immunity has been debunked by the scientific experts anyway. Premier Burt was touting 70% but that number is likely to be less than 60%. Those who want vaccines can get them. Can’t continue with lockdowns so open up Bermuda and deal with the increase in cases, the majority of which won’t need to go to the hospital.

      • sandgrownan says:

No it hasn’t. Fundamentally untrue, in fact, it works with other vaccines and the % required is much higher than 70%. Go read up on MMR jab efficacy as an example.

The problem though is this – COVID is highly contagious, and deadly for a range of people – old, infirm, existing conditions. Plus we have people who cant vaccinate for a variety of reasons. That’s why it’s more important that everyone who can be vaccinated, is vaccinated.

The problem with an increase in case is that it will overwhelm the hospital.

        • Question says:

Israel and the UK seem to have got there with vaccination rates under 70%. I’m all for people getting vaccines but you don’t need to lie about it.

          • sandgrownan says:

Not true – UK hasn’t yet, Israel has with a much higher %

For MMR, I think its in the 90′s..but either way, quibbling about the % is pointless. Everyone who can be vaccinated, should be vaccinated.
