Liberty Group Observe World Health & Safety Day
The Liberty Bermuda Group of Companies observed World Health and Safety Day on Wednesday [July 14], with a number of events and activities for employees.
A spokesperson said, “Staff from all Liberty Group Companies including Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO], AIRCARE, IEPC and IFM participated in a number of events and seminars focused on health, wellness, safety and sustainability.
“To start the day, all staff attended a ceremony to remember and honour BELCO employees who had lost their lives in service to the Company.
“Tim Deppmeyer, Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.’s Senior Director of Environment, Health and Safety held a seminar on life saving behaviours to manage the risks employees face every day including work readiness, safe driving and implementing proper safety controls.
“Mark Pacheco Director, Business Continuity and Occupational Health Safety and Environment [OHSE] and Krista Barnes, Director Communications and Sustainability gave a presentation on sustainability and the environment including BELCO’s plans and progress on becoming a renewable energy company.
“Dr. Stanley James held a seminar on men’s health covering several topics including diabetes and prostate cancer.
“A planned outdoor wellness fair was postponed due to rain.
Liberty President Wayne Caines commented: “Health and safety is our number one priority at the Liberty Group of Companies and all staff participated in a fantastic day of health, wellness and sustainability activities while also building comradery between the various companies within the Liberty Group. By all accounts the day was a tremendous success and we look forward to ensuring health, safety and sustainability remain core elements within our business practices that will ensure the wellbeing of our staff and the Bermuda community that we serve.”
