BNL To Present Literature Classes With Dr. Barry

November 7, 2021

The Bermuda National Library [BNL] is getting set to present literature classes with Dr. Angela Barry beginning on Tuesday, November 9 with the course “aimed at encouraging participants to look at the Caribbean and Bermudian societies through the work of their writers as well as to try to find the source of the unease that has historically existed between Bermuda and its Caribbean neighbours/cousins.”

“Tell a friend, teacher, classmate or colleague and take this journey with us as we explore and dig deeper into literature from the Caribbean and Bermuda and learn from our very own, top educators and award winning author Dr Angela Barry,” a spokesperson said.

Dr. Barry is a teacher and a writer who had a career spanning over 40 years as a teacher/lecturer of English. She began the Bermudian Literature at the Library series, comprising five modules held from 2017 to 2019.

She writes short fiction and novels, havs been published internationally and is the recipient of the Bermuda Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr Barry also noted that the course is open to all, and no books need to be purchased, as all materials will be provided.

In this course, Dr Angela Barry will explore the themes, preoccupations and languages of the writers who have tried to capture the truth of the Caribbean and Bermuda. Are there more similarities than differences between the two? Or is there indeed an ocean between?
