Jah-Nhai Perinchief Wins, World Leading Leap

February 13, 2022

[Updated] Jah-Nhai Perinchief made a highly impressive showing at the Tyson Invitational, winning the triple jump with a massive leap of 16.91m [55.47 ft], which is the world’s leading distance so far this season.

The Bermudian athlete entered this meet holding an already impressive 8th place in the season rankings thanks to his leap of 16.55 [54.29 ft] in New York last week, and he surpassed that during the meet in Arkansas to move to the top of the season world rankings.

The Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] posted the image below and said, “The hits keep on coming for Jah-Nhai Perinchief. Winning the Arkansas Tyson Invitational with a World Athletics world leading performance in the triple jump.”

This is not the first time the athlete has attained a top season world ranking — something which he has now managed to do in two different jumps — as back in 2016 he was ranked #1 in the world in the IAAF U/20 Men’s High Jump listings.

The official season world rankings have not yet been reflected to show Perinchief’s massive leap, however his leap exceeds the currently listed top leap, the BNAA noted it is world leading, plus the official results from the Tyson meet state that his leap is a world leading one.

Bermuda makes a highly impressive showing overall in the rankings as in addition to this spectacular showing by Jah-Nhai Perinchief, a look at the all-time world rankings — which chart all the way back to 1899 — shows Bermuda holds at least four of the top 40 positions.

Bermuda maintains an 11th place ranking in the all time indoor triple jump, thanks to a big leap from the legendary Brian Wellman back in 1995 and Mr Wellman also holds the 40th all-time triple jump outdoors. Bermuda also holds a 39th and 40th position in the all-time high jump lists thanks to Clarence ‘Nicky’ Saunders, who maintains top rankings in both indoor and outdoor jumps.

In addition to his top showing in the season rankings, Jah-Nhai Perinchief is already listed on the all-time world rankings at just over 300th, and his massive leap this weekend will likely see him move up significantly in the all-time rankings — which span over 120 years of worldwide competition — with a look at the figures indicating he is likely to move up around 100 places once they update.

Perinchief has long been tipped to be a future Olympian and his massive leap this weekend serves to further cement him as a world class jumper.

Update: The World Athletics have just updated the rankings — screenshot below — and Perinchief is now officially ranked #1 in the world this season, and he has moved up 105 places on the all-time best list
