Ministry On Reduced Use Of SafeKey & More
Effective today, people will no longer require SafeKey for sporting events within the permitted number of 100 attendees, and Large Group Exemptions for outdoor events [including sport] will not require SafeKey, however indoor events with over 100 attendees will continue to require SafeKey.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Youth Culture and Sport is advising the public that following today’s amendments to the Public Health [Covid-19 Emergency Powers] [Phased Re-Opening] Regulations 2021, there have been consequent changes to the rules governing Sport and Large Group Exemptions.
No Longer Require SafeKey For Sporting Events Within The Permitted Number Of 100 Attendees.
“Effective today, the Return to Play Guidance will no longer require SafeKey for sporting events within the permitted number of 100 attendees.
“The Testing Framework for athletes, coaches, and all those involved in the event operation will now require either twice-weekly antigen testing, or an antigen test on the day of training or competition.
Outdoor Large Group Exemptions Will Not Require SafeKey, Indoor With Over 100 Will
“Large Group Exemptions for outdoor events, [including sport] will not require SafeKey. However, indoor events with over 100 attendees will continue to require SafeKey.
More Guidelines
“More specific guidelines for the current phase are as follows.
- Sport is currently at Level 3B: Indoor and outdoor sports.
- 1.All activity is permitted within the Sporting Group.
- 2.Spectators are permitted up to maximum permitted by public health regulations [100 including sporting group and spectators].
- 3.Also, outdoor spectators, this includes those who are parents or guardians, no longer need antigen tests or SafeKey.
- 4.Antigen testing is required for the sporting group.

On a related note, the Health Minister has already announced that SafeKey “will no longer be mandatory” in restaurants, members clubs, bars, gyms and Island Boats, which means a Student 7- day Pass is no longer required for these venues.
The changes, in effect, mean that SafeKey almost been eliminated from use in most circumstances.
