Gas-O-Rama At Terceira’s North Shore On Feb 11
Bermuda’s drivers can fill their tanks for a charitable cause as part of the annual Gas-o-Rama event at Rubis Terceira’s North Shore gas station on Saturday [February 11].
Organised by Hamilton Lions Club, this year’s beneficiaries are the Bermuda Golf Association’s junior programme, Vision Bermuda and Tomorrow’s Voices.
The annual event began in 1969 after a friendly poker bet between the late Malcolm Terceira, who owned the gas station, and Edward “Teddy” Chapman, the Hamilton Lions Club president.
Mr Terceira vowed to give his horse away to whoever beat him at cards; however, Mr Chapman won and asked for the use of the gas station for a day instead. The event has raised more than $1 million for charity.
Lions members and friends will man the pumps from 7 am to 6 pm on Saturday, taking tips and selling $5 raffle tickets. The draw will take place at 6 pm.
