Lindo’s To Lindo’s Race To Be Held On March 5
The Lindo’s to Lindo’s Road Race, which aims to raise awareness of diabetes and generate funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association [BDA], is taking place on Sunday, March 5th.
A spokesperson said, “The competitive 10k run, 4-mile competitive walk and 4-mile fun run/walk will begin at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick and will finish at Lindo’s Market Devonshire. The event is returning to its traditional format after two years of hybrid-style events.
“The first 600 participants to collect their numbers will receive a goodie bag and an event tee shirt from Lindo’s. Number pick-up will take place on Saturday, March 4th between 9:30am and 12:00pm at the Bermuda Diabetes Centre, 22 Princess Street, Hamilton.
“All funds raised will go towards education initiatives within the Bermuda Diabetes Association. Education is of utmost importance and ensuring that those with diabetes are empowered to manage their condition with an emphasis to ensure accessibility to support and diabetes education regardless of insurance status. There has been a dramatic increase in those now underinsured or uninsured and therefore an increase in funding is crucial to ensure programmes are meeting the needs of our diabetes community.
“There will be prizes for the overall fastest three men and women in the competitive run along with the fastest two from each of the following age-groups:
- Junior [12 - 20]
- Open [20 - 29]
- Masters [40 - 49]
- Senior Master [50 – 59]
- Veteran [60 – 69]
- Experienced Veteran [70+]
“The fastest two competitive walkers [male and female] will also receive prizes along with the Top School Competitor [school with the greatest number of participants – whether walking or running].”
Zach Moniz, Lindo’s Family Foods Manager, said: ‘We are very proud to continue to support the Bermuda Diabetes Association: they do vital work in raising awareness of diabetes, helping Bermudians to prevent it and, of course, supporting those who have it.
‘After three years, it’s great to be getting the Lindo’s to Lindo’s back on the road again and we hope to see many of our Lindo’s customers and family stretching their legs for a good cause.’
Sara Bosch de Noya, Diabetes Educator at the Bermuda Diabetes Association, said: ‘We are so grateful for the continued support of Lindo’s with this annual community event and fundraiser. The past few years have been a challenge, and we are excited to be able to do this walk all together in person again.
‘The Lindo’s to Lindo’s is an important fundraiser for the Bermuda Diabetes Association. The support we receive and the participation from our Bermuda community is incredible. With so many Bermudians affected by diabetes – potentially as much as 20 per cent of the population – the funds raised are more critical than ever to ensure those who need our support get it.’
The spokesperson said, “The event is a collaboration between Lindo’s Group of Companies and the BDA and is organised by the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and sanctioned by Bermuda National Athletics Association. The event is further supported by BGA, Bermuda Import & Export Co, Butterfield & Vallis and Europa Imports.
