Freediving Bermuda To Run Three Day Camp

March 29, 2023

Freediving Bermuda is working with local companies to provide freediving tours, and is also offering a three day summer camp.

A spokesperson said, “Since their beginning in September of 2022, Freediving Bermuda has gotten off to an amazing start. The two cousins, Sebastian, and Adam, who obtained their PADI Freediver Instructor licences in 2021, have spent the last eight months building their business and starting work to create a close-knit, safety orientated, freediving community on the island.

“During the last eight months, they have been able to train and certify over 50 candidates, whose ages ranged from 12-years=old all the way past 60-years-old. Not only have they been able to provide both locals and tourists with PADI Basic Freediver and PADI Freediver certifications, but they have also started other initiatives as well, such as surf survival workshops that take place in the evenings at the National Stadium, summer camps, and freediving tours.

“The two certification courses that they offer are the PADI Basic Freediver, and the PADI Freediver. For those people who do not have a lot of experience being in and underneath the water, the PADI Basic Freediver is a great way to start their journey. Here, they will explore proper breathe-up and breath holding techniques, as well as get an intro into proper diving and rescue techniques, all in a confined water area that guarantees a calm and relaxed environment.

“For those who are already comfortable in the water, or are already freedivers themselves, the PADI Freediver certification is an amazing way to develop and hone skills that will help them get deeper, and stay down longer in a safe and efficient way. It also covers proper buddy and rescue techniques that will ensure you know what to do at all times.

“One of the exciting offerings that Freediving Bermuda has is a surf survival workshop. Here, instructors will take participants through different breathing techniques and warmups, and then direct classes and workouts that focus on increasing tolerance to carbon dioxide, as well as focusing on some of the best ways to recover when out of breath and tired. This type of workout can be beneficial, not only for freedivers, but also to people who run, bike, play tennis, etc. All are welcome, and no previous freediving experience is necessary.

“This year, Freediving Bermuda is working with other local companies such as Dive Bermuda, and Sail Bermuda to offer freediving tours, both in groups, as well as privately. Having spent years exploring the reefs surrounding the island, your instructors will show you some of the most amazing shipwrecks and reef dive sites that the island has to offer. Here, you will also be able to try out diving on a line and can work on technique when not exploring the dive sites.

“Starting this summer, Freediving Bermuda is also running a three day summer camp. The camp will include fun activities and excursions to different dive sites around the island. As well as that, the participants will have the opportunity to take part in, and become PADI certified freedivers. There are limited spaces, and due to PADI age standards, the minimum age for participants is 15 years old.

“If you, or anyone you know wants to get comfortable in the water, is a freediver or spear fisherman and wants to learn safety and rescue techniques and stay down longer, or someone who wants an accessible and fun way to explore the reefs and waters around our beautiful island, then do not hesitate to reach out.”
