Jackson Langley Wins Sarasota Triathlon
14-year-old Jackson Langley put on a dominant performance in Sarasota, Florida on Saturday to claim victory in the Youth Elite Male Category at the Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon.
A spokesperson said, “His teammate, Jacob Wright also claimed a top ten finish in the USA triathlon series event. This is the second weekend of racing in the US for Langley and Wright. Last weekend Langley claimed two podium finishes in the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge.
“Langley exited the water in second position and quickly took the lead on the bike leg, gaining almost a minute over his nearest competitor, Canadian Turk Dingwall. He held his advantage with a strong run, finishing in the event in 35minutes 31 seconds to take home the gold medal. The Sarasota-Bradenton course was slightly longer than the usual super-sprint distance with a 375m swim, 12.2km bike and 2.5km run.”
Jackson said, “The win yesterday was a perfect end to two amazing weeks of competition.”
The spokesperson said, “Jacob Wright also showed his capability on the bike leg of the event in Sarasota, moving up two places in the discipline after finishing the swim in 7th position. Wright ultimately finished in 6th position in a time of 40 minutes, 9 seconds.”
Clive Langley, coach and Jackson’s father commented, “I was really pleased with the boys’ performances in the United States. These races gave them the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best triathletes in the region and it was encouraging to see the results of all the training pay off so early in the season. I hope that our young Bermudian triathletes can continue to race internationally this year and see what more they can accomplish.”
