Middle-distance runner Dage Minors has withdrawn from the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix because of a knee injury.
He hopes to recover for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador, next month; however, he said he was unlikely to be fit for the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby on May 26.
The 27-year-old said he felt discomfort in his right knee during the last leg of the Swan’s Running Club Legends Race Series.
Minors, who produced a superb display at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix last year, finishing third in the men’s 1,500 metres, was crowned the male winner of the four-race series.
“May was always going to be a big month for us,” Minors said. “Between the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix and the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby.
“I was looking forward to competing in both of them, each race for a different purpose and meaning to my season and career.
“[The injury] has impacted my preparations for these races tremendously as I haven’t been able to train for almost a week.
“Right now, the main focus is finding out what’s causing the pain, getting back healthy, building back fitness, and racing again next month as we progress to the CAC Games and the rest of the summer.”
The USATF Bermuda Grand Prix will be held at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Sunday [May 21].
Minors added: “I encourage the public to come out on Sunday and attend the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix. It should be a good meet again.”
