BUEI Presents ‘The Secret Science Of Sewage’
BUEI’s third annual Climate Cinema series presents ‘The Secret Science of Sewage,’ a film exploring “how human waste can be revitalised into becoming something renewable and sustainable. ”
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s [BUEI] third annual Climate Cinema series continues with the feature screening of ‘The Secret Science of Sewage’, showing in our Tradewinds Auditorium on Saturday, October 14th at 4 PM.
“In ‘The Secret Science of Sewage’ Dr George McGavin and Dr Zoe Laughlin investigate how human waste can be revitalised into becoming something renewable and sustainable.
“With the help of world class scientists, Dr McGavin and Dr Laughlin venture into the UK’s biggest sewage works to discover how urine can generate electricity, how the gas within faeces can fuel a car and even how the nutrients within waste can help solve the deprived soil crisis. The film will run for 1 hour and is suitable for all ages.
“Following the screening of the film, a 45-minute panel discussion on the impacts of local waste management and the environmental considerations of Bermuda’s waste will be held.
“The panel will be moderated by William Campbell and includes speakers Colin Campbell [Manager of OBMI and member and former president of the Institute of Bermuda Architects and the Institute of Chartered Arbiters], Andrew Dias [General Manager of WEDCO and the CEO of BLDC] and Tarik Christopher [Chief Engineer for the Bermuda Government’s Waste Department]. Within their discussion, panellists will also discuss past perspectives and current approaches on sewage management in Bermuda and take audience questions.
“This event is free for all ages, with films premiering at BUEI in the lead up to the annual Youth Climate Summit in November. Since 2021, BUEI’s Climate Cinema has been running every weekend in October, showcasing feature-length climate documentaries and short films focusing on sustainability, conservation, and climate justice. Our Climate Cinema is aimed at students aged 13-22 with events being free to attend for students and their guests.”

There is enough of that cow gas/smell in Devonshire on a hot day.
