Local Golfers At Butterfield Championship
The 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championships got underway at the Port Royal Golf Course, with Bermudian golfers competing alongside top professional golfers from around the world.
Kim Swan provided a wrap-up of the local players, saying: “Day 1 of the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship produced some outstanding scores with Swede Alex Noren capitalizing on ideal weather conditions and pristine golf course conditions to shoot a course record 61 [10 under par] with 44 players at 67 [4 under] and 113 players at par or better the
Local Players
“Michael Sims and Oliver Betschart, at 15 years old, are the leading local players local players at one [1] over par when play was suspended due to darkness. Eric West and Scott Roy both shot six over par 77 in their PGA Tour debuts.
Eric West
“West birdied the par 3 third hole when he stuck a short iron 5 feet having bogeyed the first when his tee shot found the rough. Unfortunately, West’s tee shots would miss the fairway on #4, #5 and #11 where he would but himself in a defensive position and drop four strokes to par.
On day 2, West has everything to play and if he can find the fairway and hit greens in regulation a good second round with the solid shot execution we witnessed.
Scott Roy
“Scott Roy, the busy Club Pro, demonstrated great determination and should take great comfort and encouragement with the way he played his last 5 holes in one under par.
“Play Resumes at 7:45am. Michael Sims and Oliver Betschart are on the course at 7:45am on # 7 Green to complete their rounds.”
