Bermuda Women Awarded Win Over SVG
[Written by Stephen Wright]
The Bermuda women’s national team have been awarded a 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines after their opponents failed to reach the island for their Concacaf W Gold Cup football qualifier on Friday [December 2].
The match was cancelled after Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were denied permission to travel on their intended route after making late changes to their schedule.
The decision by Concacaf to hand Bermuda the win means they need just a draw away to the Dominican Republic in their final group C League B match tomorrow [December 5] to ensure they win the group.
Bermuda top the group with 13 points from five matches, one point ahead of the Dominican Republic, who they defeated 2-0 at home in September.
The group winners will advance to the play-offs against one of the group runners-up from League A.
The inaugural W Gold Cup, running from February 20 to March 10 in the United States, will feature 12 teams.
