Youth Delegation Arrives In Dubai For COP28
Bermuda’s Youth Delegation – Noelle Young, Zayne Sinclair, Malachi Symonds, Olly Cherry, William Campbell, and Isaiah Fraser – has arrived in Dubai for the YOUNGA World Conference during COP28.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda’s youth delegation has arrived in Dubai for the YOUNGA World Conference during COP28, and their presence has garnered substantial international support. Led by Noelle Young, the team, including Zayne Sinclair, Malachi Symonds, Olly Cherry, William Campbell, and Isaiah Fraser, received a warm welcome and expressions of solidarity from youth advocates globally.
Global Support
“Before touching down in Dubai, the delegation already felt the powerful embrace of support from several international youth advocates. This wave of encouragement has only grown stronger since their arrival, underscoring the remarkable unity and solidarity of the international youth community rallying behind our Bermudian youth representatives.
Overcoming Financial Hurdles
“While the delegation successfully raised $25,000 through their fundraising efforts and personal savings, two delegates still face financial challenges. BridgingTheGap Ventures has stepped in generously, allowing them to participate in COP28 and the YOUNGA World events, with a commitment to reimbursement. The cooperation from other international youth has been instrumental in helping the Bermuda delegation overcome barriers, enabling them to represent our nation on the global stage.
Welcome in Dubai
“The team received a warm welcome from BridgingTheGap Ventures, organizers of YOUNGA, on December 1 at the Hilton Hotel on Jumeirah Beach, marking the beginning of their journey at COP28 and the YOUNGA World Conference. Their arrival not only signifies their physical presence but also highlights the genuine collaboration that fosters positive change. The delegates registered for their first COP orientation session on December 30, marking a crucial step in their active participation in this pivotal intergenerational occasion.
“They will showcase their global Action Project at the YOUNGA Youth Panel Spotlight on December 5 and contribute to Bermuda Asset Management’s Bermuda Day Showcase on December 3. Cop28 president says there is ‘no science’ behind demands for phase-out of fossil fuels – The Guardian
The president of Cop28, Sultan Al Jaber, has claimed there is “no science” indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C, the Guardian and the Centre for Climate Reporting can reveal.
Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves”. (WOW!)
The comments were “incredibly concerning” and “verging on climate denial”, scientists said, and they were at odds with the position of the UN secretary general, António Guterres.
Al Jaber spoke with Robinson at a She Changes Climate event. Robinson said: “We’re in an absolute crisis that is hurting women and children more than anyone … and it’s because we have not yet committed to phasing out fossil fuel. That is the one decision that Cop28 can take and in many ways, because you’re head of Adnoc, you could actually take it with more credibility.”
Al Jaber said: “I accepted to come to this meeting to have a sober and mature conversation. I’m not in any way signing up to any discussion that is alarmist. There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C.”

“verging on climate denial”? hahahaha! Another absurd madeup phrase.
