Jan 18: Confessions Of A Shopaholic Screening
The screening of ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 18th at BUEI, Tradewinds Auditorium, commencing at 6pm.
A spokesperson said, “Confessions of a Shopaholic serves as both a humorous and cautionary tale, prompting watchers to reflect on their own relation with consumerism and the broader implications of a society driven by materialistic pursuits. It encourages a balanced approach to consumption and highlights the importance of mindful and responsible choices in the face of a culture that often promotes excessive buying.
“Fast fashion is a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to around 10% of worldwide emissions, more than aviation and shipping combined. In addition, in order to produce vast amounts of cheap clothing, many fast fashion brands exploit garment workers around the world, with less than 2% of garment workers earning a living wage.
“Bermuda Is Love encourages everyone to follow the five-step rule when it comes to shopping sustainably to reduce the impact of consumerism and fast fashion in Bermuda.
5 Step Rule:
- Buy less – only buy what you need to wear and what you know you will wear.
- Swap clothes that you don’t use with friends and family.
- Buy secondhand from thrift stores or consignment shops.
- Buy from sustainable, fair trade, and ethical clothing brands.
- Donate your clothes to charity. Not only will this help someone in need, but it will also help to protect the environment and save human lives.
“Everyone has the right to access the clothing they need in order to live with dignity and respect, without harming the planet or exploiting garment workers.
“Join us next Thursday as we watch a fun yet important film highlighting the problem of excessive buying while encouraging a more sustainable lifestyle.”
