‘Kids Hour Saturdays’ On Hermit Crab World
The small but mighty Hermit Crab is the focus for The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s [BUEI] ‘Kids Hour Saturdays’ on February 17th, 2024.
A spokesperson said, “Kids Hours Saturdays’ [KHS] takes place every third Saturday of the month at 11am and 2pm respectively. Each hour features the screening of short films followed by a book reading for children aged 5-12 years.
“The short film for this month’s Kids Hour is an episode from the series ‘Alien Takeover’. The episode titled “Invasion of the Monster Crabs” focuses on the large and bizarre species of crab known as the King Crab. Documenting the strange physiology of king crabs, this film discusses their known evolutionary history, while revealing why scientists have a keen interest in studying this species of crustacean.
“The book, ‘Herman the Hermit Crab’ by Cindy W. Hollingsworth, tells the author’s story of her first time meeting Herman the hermit crab during a seashell hunt on Oak Island in North Carolina. As we follow the author’s journey, the book treats its readers to a soothing, lyrical writing style that mimics the rhythm of ocean waves beating against the sand.
“Kids Hour Saturdays are free for members [Single Parent through Adventurer Tier] and all care givers, and $4 per child for non-members. Please note, caregivers must stay on site for the hour. Admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre at BUEI is also included.
“Mark your calendars for a subsequent selection of Kids Hour Saturdays taking place on Saturday March 16th when the focus is on Humpback Whales!
“Space is limited and advance registration is encouraged. To register for BUEI’s ‘Kids Hour Saturdays’, please call 294-0204 or email giftshop@buei.bm.”
