Bermuda Hockey Team Defeat Brazil To Advance
The Bermuda women’s national hockey team secured a superb 2-1 comeback win over Brazil in their final pool match of the Women’s Pan American Challenge at the National Sports Centre yesterday [September 27].
Coach Kovin Moodley’s side have advanced to the bronze-medal match and will face Guyana today.
The two teams drew 1-1 in the round-robin phase of the competition.
Bermuda, who finished fourth in the pool with four points from four games, fell behind against Brazil in the eighteenth minute when Mayara Eiko opened the scoring.
However, Bermuda levelled through Mallory Towlson in the 38th minute before completing the comeback when Jessica Hollis scored the winner in the 46th minute.
Mexico, the tournament favourites, will look to win their fifth successive game when they play Paraguay in the final today at 6 pm.
The challenge winner will advance to the Women’s Pan American Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay, next summer.
Well done, ladies!
