Police Confirm The Death Of Janet Niklaus
[Updated] The Bermuda Police Service have now confirmed the death of Janet Niklaus.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm that the lifeless body found near the Vesey Reserve, Southampton, on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, was that of 70-year-old Mrs. Janet Niklaus.
“Ms. Niklaus was reported missing from her Whale Bay Road, Southampton residence, on Friday, August 30th, 2024.
“An extensive search for her commenced and lasted several days.
“We wish to thank those members of the public who so generously gave of their time to assist in the search for Ms. Niklaus.
“The BPS extends condolences to her family and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to assist them during this difficult time.
“No further information will be provided at this time.”
Update 11.34pm: Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “It is with a heavy heart that I express my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Janet Niklaus.
“Her passing is a devastating loss for our community, and my thoughts and prayers are with all who loved her during this incredibly difficult time.
“I want to thank the Bermuda Police Service, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, the Royal Bermuda Regiment and everyone who responded to the public appeals and joined in the search for Ms Niklaus.
“This is a tragic moment for our close-knit island, and we stand together in mourning her loss.”
