Flora Of Bermuda Finishes Fifth At Haydock
Racehorse Flora Of Bermuda delivered a competitive performance after finishing fifth at the Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock Park Racecourse in St Helens, Merseyside, England, at the weekend.
The three-year-old filly looked well set in the group one race, part of the British Champions Series, until the final furlong and a half when she was met with a wall of horses and no room to run.
When a gap appeared, Flora Of Bermuda, ridden by Oisin Murphy, quickly closed the gap and gained ground on the race leaders.
Haddock’s most prestigious flat race was won by Montassib, who went off at 25-1.
Simon Scupham, chairman of Bermuda Racing, said the next stop for Flora Of Bermuda is the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot on October 19.
“Unfortunately, it was a case of what could have been for Flora in this very deep renewal of Haydock’s group one Sprint Cup,” he said.
“Having nowhere to go one and a half furlongs out, Flora still managed to finish a flying eye-catching fifth.
“Onwards and forwards to the Champions Sprint at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire next month!”
