Police Confirm Death Of 17-Year-Old Male
[Updated] 17-year-old Ethan Arruda has died following a stabbing incident, the police have confirmed.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS], is seeking the public’s assistance with the investigation into a stabbing incident which occurred at a residence on Devonshire Bay Road, Devonshire, shortly after 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
“The incident resulted in a 17-year-old male being taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.
“Sadly the young man has now succumbed to his injuries.
“There were several young people at the residence at the time of this incident and we are appealing for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, to please contact Detective Inspector Clifford Roberts on 717-0590 or via email, croberts2@bps.bm.

Update: The police have identified the victim as 17-year-old Ethan Arruda.
Inspector Derricka Burns said, “It is with profound sadness that we confirm the tragic death of 17-year-old, Ethan Arruda, who was stabbed during a house party that was taking place at a residence on Devonshire Bay Road, in Devonshire.
“Police were called to attend the scene around 12:15 this morning, where they found the victim unconscious. He was taken to the hospital and despite immediate medical attention and life-saving efforts, Ethan succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation. We are aware that there were between 50 to 100 people at the party and are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, to come forward to assist in providing clarity and justice for the victim and his loved ones.
“If you were at this party, we would like to hear from you. If your child was at this party, we would like to hear from you. If you have any video footage or other recorded images from the party, we would like to hear from you.

“Knife crime is a growing concern in our community, and we must take a stand against it. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for collective action to address violence in our neighborhoods. We cannot allow our youth to be caught in the crossfire of such senseless acts. It is imperative that we come together as a community to foster dialogue, encourage positive choices, and implement measures to prevent further tragedies.
“The Bermuda Police Service expresses its deepest condolences to the families affected by this senseless act of violence which claimed Ethan’s life. We encourage anyone in need of support to reach out to local counselling services, as we stand together as a community in the wake of this tragedy.

Update, October 28 6.26pm: Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “It is with profound sorrow that I address the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Ethan Arruda, who was fatally stabbed early Sunday morning in Devonshire.
“My deepest condolences go out to Ethan’s family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. No words can adequately express the pain and grief that comes with such a senseless act of violence.
“I strongly urge all witnesses or anyone with information related to this tragic incident to come forward and assist the Bermuda Police Service with their investigation. Or please call the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline of 800 8477 to provide information about this heinous incident.”
