Video: Nahki Wells Praises City’s Resilience
Nahki Wells has hailed his team-mates’ resilience and unity after staging a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2 away to Stoke City in the Sky Bet Championship yesterday [October 22].
The Bermuda striker scored twice in quick succession early in the second half, securing a hard-earned point for his side.
The 34-year-old, now with three goals for the season, was adamant that his team deserved a positive result.
“I’m delighted to get a couple of goals, especially after the start we had,” Wells told the club’s social media.
“We put in a good performance today, but going two goals down after 20 minutes was a bit frustrating because I felt we had a great start to the game,” he said.

Despite the early setback, Wells highlighted the spirit in the squad, who remained focused on their game plan.
“We went behind, but the players were galvanised, trying to be positive, and sticking to the script,” Wells said.
“We still had plenty of chances and got into the final third loads of times. We couldn’t capitalise on those chances.
“It took us until the start of the second half to really get us going.”
Wells’s confidence in his team’s ability to claw their way back into the match never wavered, especially after his first goal.
“Being 2-0 up is deceiving and is a tough scoreline, especially when we know it’s not a true reflection of the game,” Wells said.
“For 25 minutes of that first half, we were the best team; we just had to stick to the plan. We got a bit of luck with the first goal, which gives you a lift.
“I genuinely felt after scoring the first that we could win this. It was a great point to come from 2-0 down.”
The club has been navigating a challenging period, with manager Liam Manning on leave following the tragic loss of his newborn son.
Wells acknowledged the emotional toll but praised the squad for pulling together during such a difficult time.
“It’s been a tough week,” he said. “I guess the fortunate thing for us has been that we’ve had the fixtures to distract us from the realities of what we and the club have been dealing with.”
City’s recent results, including a notable win against Middlesbrough and the draw at Stoke, have kept their six-game unbeaten run alive.
“Beating a top team like Middlesbrough away and getting a point today shows our resilience, what we’re about, and what we epitomise as a team,” Wells added.
“We could do with a few more wins, but it helps us keep climbing the table.”
