Cyclists Achieve Top Finishes In Guyana
Bermuda’s cycling team made a strong showing at the Caribbean Elite Road Championships in Guyana, winning multiple medals and achieving strong placements.
The team won four medals on the first day of competition, and follow that up with a strong showing on the subsequent day.
A Bermuda Bicycle Association spokesperson said, “Wrapping up an incredible weekend at the Caribbean Elite Road Championships! Team Bermuda put up an impressive fight in today’s road race under intense heat. Here’s how it went.
“In the Elite Men’s Road Race: The team executed a solid plan, with Tyler providing critical support. Kaden made a promising break for the podium, but after he dropped out, Conor’s group rallied hard, with Conor doing much of the work and securing a commendable 6th place overall.
“Only 15 out of 74 riders managed to finish the grueling 9-lap, 155km course.
“Corey Williams of Belize — a renowned sprinter — took a well-deserved victory.
“In the Women’s Road Race: The course was shortened to 4 laps [85km], setting up a sprint finish where Gabby placed 5th overall and 2nd in the elite women’s category just 7 seconds behind the winner Llori, Sharpe of Jamaica, bringing Gabby’s weekend total to 2 silver medals.”
