BSSF U13 & U16 Football Finals Results
The Bermuda School Sports Federation held two football finals at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence on Tuesday to complete the football calendar.
Under 13 Middle School Final
A spokesperson said, “Cairo Burgess scored twice to secure a 2-1 victory over Warwick Academy in the under 13 final. Burgess scored the games opening goal when he long range freekick rose high over the outstretching arms of the Warwick goalkeeper. Gebre Vickers scored a second half equalizer for Warwick Academy which led to a frantic last fifteen minutes of both teams searching for the winner. Just when it seemed the match would head to the dreaded penalty shootout the referee pointed to the penalty spot after Burgess was tumbled to the floor. Burgess got up and dusted himself off before calmly scoring from the spot kick with the last kick of the match. both Burgess and Vickers were named MVPs for their respective teams.
Under 16 Senior School Final
“Saltus Grammar School ran away to a 6-2 victory in the under 16 Senior School final over the Berkeley Institute Gold team. The pair of Saezjhor Dent and Malik Paynter proved to be too much for the Berkeley backline as they combined for five goals. Dent opened the scoring when he was the beneficiary of a powerful Paynter run into the box. Paynter took matters into his own hands when he doubled the lead after another fine run into the area. Curtis Jackson made it 3-0 when the defender scored a header off a corner from the left. Paynter stripped the ball from a defender before suppling Dent with his second of the half. Dent completed his hat trick early in the second half before Berkeley finally got on the score sheet. Saatchi Trott pulled one back for Berkeley with an exquisite 25 year free kick which found the top corner of the Saltus goal. Paynter would immediately score again to squash any hopes Berkeley had of a comeback. Berkeley came to life and create chances but were thwarted by the Saltus goalkeeper and some bad luck. Nazri Butterfield scored a late consolation goal with a fine headed goal off of a corner. Paynter and Trott were named MVPS.”
