Philharmonic Orchestra Holds Youth Competition
The Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra held the 2025 Young Artist Composition and Concerto Competition on Sunday [Jan 19], with Ewan Espley-Ault, Carter Bernard, Prince Domingo, Gabrielle Henderson, and Edward Wyer being named winners.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra proudly hosted the 2025 Young Artist Composition and Concerto Competition on Sunday, January 19 at the Bermuda School of Music. The event brought together Bermuda’s most promising young musicians to showcase their talent, creativity, and dedication to the art of classical music.
“The competition featured a distinguished panel of judges, including pianist and vocalist Anne Marshall, violinist and violist Ryan Beauchamp, and the Philharmonic’s Board President and Music Director, cellist Kate Kayaian. Together, they evaluated an impressive lineup of performances and original compositions from the island’s emerging artists.”
Ms. Kayaian said, “The level of artistry and passion these young musicians brought to the stage was nothing short of inspiring. It’s a testament to the wealth of talent here in Bermuda and the importance of nurturing the next generation of classical artists.”
Composition category winners:
- 1st Prize: Ewan Espley-Ault [15, Warwick Academy] for his clarinet and cello duo, “Themes of Glory and Honour.” His piece will be performed by members of the Bermuda Philharmonic at their Spring Chamber Music Concert.
- 2nd Prize: Carter Bernard [17, Saltus Grammar School] for his Piano Sonata in b minor.
Concerto category winners:
- 1st Prize: Prince Domingo [14, violist] for his performance of Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto. As part of his prize, Prince will perform as a soloist with the Bermuda Philharmonic at their Spring Concert on March 16th at St. John’s Church in Pembroke.
- 2nd Prize: Gabrielle Henderson [16, pianist] for her performance of Hummel’s Concertino.
- 3rd Prize: Edward Wyer [14, violinist] for his performance of Bach’s Concerto in A Minor.
The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra extends its gratitude to the Bermuda School of Music for hosting the event and to all the participants and their families and teachers for their dedication to the arts.
“The Bermuda Philharmonic invites you to join us for The Art of Music, the fifth installment of our fundraising event series pairing chamber music and visual art. The event will take place on Thursday, January 30 at Masterworks Museum from 5:30pm to 8pm. Music is like the dancer who becomes the dance .
I never got any further than harmonics does that really matter .
At least the classics we always will have some thing to look forward to .
Wining is not everything life the enjoyable part is participating an being part of a biger picture.

Music brings joy the the world and Bermuda so sadly need it.
