Robin Horsfield finished 39th in the elite men’s cross-country Olympic [XCO] race at the Pan American MTB Championships in Belen, Herédia, Costa Rica, yesterday [April 27].

Horsfield completed five laps in 1hr 15min 58sec, while the winner, Jose Arevalo, of Mexico, completed seven laps in 1:32:39.

“Solid effort from Robin Horsfield today at the Pan American MTB Championships!” the Bermuda Bicycle Association posted on social media.

“Robin had a strong start in the elite men’s cross-country Olympic [XCO] race, positioning himself well on the first lap.

“A slower second and third lap saw him slip slightly out of the top 30 he was aiming for, but he stayed tough against an incredibly high-level field.

“Considering the quality of the competition, it was a stronger showing compared to previous years – a great step forward!

“With this being one of his first big races of the season, it was a valuable shock to the system – setting the tone for an exciting year ahead.

“Well done, Robin – we’re proud of the grit and determination you showed out there!”
