A spokesperson said, “Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB] invites the public to a Celebration of Life in honour of the late Dr. Eva Naomi Hodgson, OBE, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. This event marks the fifth anniversary of Dr. Hodgson’s passing and pays tribute to her extraordinary life, legacy, and unwavering advocacy for racial justice and human rights in Bermuda.
“Dr. Hodgson, who passed away on May 29, 2020, at the age of 96 during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, was a pioneer in confronting the legacy of segregation and systemic racism in Bermuda. Her life’s work was defined by a fearless pursuit of truth, equality, and reconciliation. A formidable activist, educator, and author, Dr. Hodgson dedicated her life to shedding light on racial injustice—regardless of the personal and professional costs.
“Throughout her childhood and into her adult life, Dr. Hodgson experienced and bore witness to the harsh realities of segregation and the continued discrimination faced by Black Bermudians. She became a tireless advocate, raising her voice in the face of power and societal resistance. Often marginalized for her outspoken stance, she nevertheless remained resolute in her mission to create a more just and equitable Bermuda.
“Her enduring message—that truth and justice are the cornerstones of reconciliation—has inspired generations. Dr. Hodgson’s intellectual brilliance, moral leadership, and deep integrity have made an indelible impact on Bermuda’s social fabric. Her legacy continues to guide us in the ongoing dialogue on race relations, healing, and national unity.
“This celebration will serve as a moment for the community to come together, reflect, and recommit to the work Dr. Hodgson championed so passionately. CURB extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Hodgson’s family for their blessing, and to The Right Revd. Nicholas Dill, Bishop of Bermuda, for his support and collaboration in bringing this tribute to the people of Bermuda.
