Willie Clemons Joins Leiston Football Club
Bermuda national team footballer Willie Clemons has joined Leiston Football Club in England, with the club saying “he’s an attacking, dynamic player and it’s an exciting one for the fans.”
The club’s announcement said, “The Blues have made their first signing of the close season, with Bermudian international Willie Clemons joining the club.
“Clemons, 30, is an attacking player who has played for his country 33 times, netting three goals for Bermuda. He’s been on Leiston’s radar for some time and, at last, the Blues have got their man.”
“I’m happy to finally get it sorted,” Willie Clemons said.
“I’ve been familiar with the club for a while now. I almost came here a couple of years ago but ended up at Braintree. But Leiston is a good club, I’ve always admired it from afar. I can’t wait to get going.
“The ground is looking good, the pitch at Leiston has always been one of the best to play on. I’m looking forward to it.”
The spokesperson added, “Clemons was at Felixstowe & Walton last season and won promotion to the National League with Braintree before that. So, what can the Victory Road fans expect from him?”
“I would hope to say they can expect a good bit of quality from me, a bit of excitement, something to put a smile on your face with obviously plenty of wins and trophies,” said Willie Clemons.
The spokesperson added, “Blues boss Chris Wigger and Head of Football Strategy, Darren Eadie, were on hand to greet Clemons at the Watson & Hillhouse Stadium.”
Chris Wigger said, “I think the first signing of a close season is always an exciting one and you always have your targets and getting that first one over the line, as we have with Willie, is very important to us.
“We tried to sign him a couple of years ago. He felt at the time his future lay with Braintree, and he ended up having a very successful time with their promotion success.
“He’s an attacking, dynamic player and it’s an exciting one for the fans.
“It’s good to secure Willie, and we’re already looking forward to the start of the season.”
