Andrea Mckey Inducted Into Hall Of Fame
Andrea Mckey has been inducted into the U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame and was recognized as International Instructor of the Year.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Karate Federation proudly celebrates the induction of Sensei Andrea Mckey into the prestigious United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame [USMAHOF] on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
“At a distinguished black-tie gala hosted at The Westin San Antonio North in Texas, Sensei Mckey was recognized as International Instructor of the Year, a title befitting her remarkable contributions to martial arts both in Bermuda and on the international stage.
“With over 26 years of dedication to Shotokan Karate, Sensei Mckey currently holds the rank of 4th Dan. She has been a pillar of Bermuda’s martial arts community, having not only earned accolades through her own tournament success but also through her tireless mentorship and training of a generation of local karateka. Her students, many of whom have become champions themselves, are a testament to her skill, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
“Described at the ceremony as someone who has truly elevated Bermuda through her presence and work, Sensei Mckey has long been known as the backbone of the Tabata-Ha Shotokan Dojo, where she is both an instructor and a role model. Her disciplined, compassionate approach has shaped not only athletes, but confident, respectful individuals.
“Beyond the dojo, Andrea Mckey has served the Government and people of Bermuda for over 35 years, earning admiration from colleagues, students, and the wider public alike. Her dual commitment to public service and martial arts exemplifies the spirit of integrity and dedication the USMAHOF seeks to recognize.
“The United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, sponsored by the International Martial Arts Council of America [IMACUSA], honors martial artists who have made profound and lasting impacts on the martial arts community. Rather than focusing on celebrities, the Hall of Fame celebrates those who embody the true essence of martial arts – humility, perseverance, and selfless service.
“Preceding the awards gala, inductees participated in the IMACUSA National Training Camp, a three-day learning event led by 15 master-level instructors representing diverse disciplines from around the world. The experience fosters international exchange, growth, and camaraderie within the global martial arts community.
“Andrea Mckey’s induction into the USMAHOF stands as a milestone for Bermuda’s martial arts legacy, and the Bermuda Karate Federation extends its heartfelt congratulations on this outstanding achievement. Her honor serves as an inspiration to martial artists across the island and a proud moment for all who have had the privilege to learn from her.”
