Minister Urges Public To Attend CCTV Town Hall
Minister of National Security Michael Weeks is urging residents to attend a town hall on Thursday [July 3] to learn about Bermuda’s upgraded CCTV system and take part in a community dialogue on public safety and privacy.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security is inviting all residents to a public town hall meeting this Thursday, 3 July, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St Paul AME Centennial Hall, 59 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
“The event will provide a full update on Bermuda’s upgraded island-wide CCTV system and allow the public to hear how the network supports public safety, protects privacy, and assists law enforcement.
“The CCTV system is now fully installed and operational, with 225 cameras integrated across 130 locations, delivering 460 distinct camera views.
“Additionally, an expansion phase is underway that will see 20 more site locations added, increasing coverage to 150 locations island-wide and further strengthening public safety.
“The system features pan-tilt-zoom, multi-sensory, varifocal, and license plate recognition cameras, all linked through modern technology to support the Bermuda Police Service in monitoring public spaces and responding to incidents more effectively.
“Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP, will be joined on the panel by Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons and Privacy Commissioner Alexander White.”
The Minister encouraged residents to take part in this important community dialogue, stating: “I urge everyone to come out on Thursday night. This is your chance to hear the facts about the CCTV system and to have your voice heard.”
“We want an open and honest dialogue with the community. This town hall is about transparency, accountability, and working together for a safer Bermuda.”
“These cameras are here to support public safety, but they are only part of the solution. We need the community’s involvement, starting with showing up and engaging.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The town hall will address privacy concerns, share details about the system’s capabilities, and allow residents to ask questions directly of the panellists.”

Perhaps our MPs should attend. This will be a first “full update”.
The opposition only works hard when the election is called. Most times they’re spineless and afraid of the government.
Who cares about the opposition , what we want is a government that actually knows how to run a country ….plain and simple !!
And when the opposition was in they ran it better….let’s be real!
No one cares about the OBA and the few that do care will never see them in power….facts!!
And look how that’s going for us lmao…..
It is the government MPs that are spineless, too afraid to stand up against Burt and against damaging policies. Are you one of them?
How about the Big Guy and the 13 ministers all agree to have their movements tracked by the CCTV network for just one week? By car, by bike, by taxi, walking, etc. Why would they object?
Are any, or all, of these cameras accessible online by the public as so many DOT cameras across US states and Canadian provinces are?
Currently there are only about 6 cameras online. Only a few of them have interesting views. Surely many of the CCTV cameras have interesting views in the background.
Any cameras on Court Street would capture interesting business deals going on at all hours of the day.
