Sigma Xi Omega To Host Event With Tara Roberts
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Sigma Xi Omega Chapter will present ‘Written in The Waters: An Evening with Tara Roberts’ on Friday, September 19TH.
A spokesperson said, “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated [AKA] Sigma Xi Omega Chapter to host “Written in The Waters: An Evening with Tara Roberts”. In celebration of its 35th Anniversary, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Sigma Xi Omega Chapter will host an evening with Tara Roberts on Friday, September 19, 2025.
“Ms. Roberts is an Explorer-in-Residence, 2022 Rolex Explorer of the Year, author, and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Ms. Roberts is internationally recognized for her work amplifying the stories of Black scuba divers who search for and document slave shipwrecks. Her newly published memoir, Written in the Waters: A Memoir of History, Home, and Belonging, brings to light the environmental and cultural histories that lie beneath our oceans and connect communities across the globe. Her storytelling inspires deep reflection on identity, purpose, and legacy.
“In addition to the public event, Sigma Xi Omega Chapter will host a student invitation-only program on Friday, September 19, 2025, bringing together students from Bermuda College and local public and private schools. This interactive session will feature a short film on Ms. Roberts’ work, followed by a Q&A, designed to inspire Bermuda’s youth to explore history, heritage, and global citizenship.”
“This is more than an event; it is an opportunity to connect Bermuda to a global story of resilience, identity, and belonging,” said Necheeka Trott, President of Sigma Xi Omega Chapter. “We are especially proud to provide our students with a unique chance to engage with Tara Roberts, whose work demonstrates the power of uncovering history to shape our future.”
A spokesperson added, “This experience presents a powerful opportunity for the community to engage with Ms. Roberts in this unique way. Books can be pre-ordered at the Bermuda Bookstore.
“General admission tickets for the event on Friday, September 19, 2025, are $35.00. Premium Admission tickets at $80.00 include a private cocktail reception, a meet and greet with Tara Roberts, and reserved seating. The event will be held at Bermuda College.
