Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons will aim to extend his unbeaten record when he faces Mexican fighter Juan Andrés Diaz in Mexicali, Baja California, tomorrow [October 4].

Simmons, now ranked among the top 15 light heavyweights in the United States, will take on Diaz in a six-round bout at the Gimnasio de Mexicali.

The 28-year-old has won all eight of his fights since turning professional in December 2023.

“It’s a last-minute fight, but I’ve stayed in the gym, and this is a great opportunity,” Simmons told Bernews. “It’s only been a three or four-week camp, but I’m ready.”

Simmons will not be the only Bermudian in the ring tomorrow.

Compatriot Adrian Roach will also appear on the undercard against Victor Emmanuel López in a four-round welterweight matchup.

“I’ve got a lot of people coming out to support me, and Adrian will be there,” Simmons said.

“He’s building his career, and I want to help open doors for him. He got the fight notice at the same time as me and said, ‘Let’s run it,’ without hesitation. Hats off to him.”

Despite a series of last-minute opponent changes, Simmons remains confident.

“They’ve changed my opponent six or seven times – it doesn’t bother me,” he said.

“I trust my skill set and the work I’ve put in over the years, not just this camp.

“It’s his home crowd – his town is only 30 minutes away – but that just motivates me more. Hopefully, I’ll break into the top ten after this fight.”

Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons was raised in Somerset, Bermuda, before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother at age 12.

He had a decorated amateur career, finishing runner-up at both the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
