Basketball: Cobras Streak Ends, Bulldogs Win
The Cobras’ 10-game unbeaten run ended in a forfeit due to insufficient players, while the Bulldogs secured a crucial 58–45 victory over the Mambas in the Bermuda Youth Basketball [BYB] League.
A spokesperson said, “In a stunning turn, the Cobras 10-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end, not on the hardwood, but at the scorer’s table.
“Due to late arrivals and injuries, the Cobras were unable to field five eligible starters at tip-off, forcing the coach to forfeit the game to the Piranhas.
“The result officially ends the Cobras streak at 10 and hands the Piranhas their third win of the season.
“In this league, availability matters, and this week, it proved decisive.
“In the nightcap, The Mambas faced off against a Bulldogs squad determined not to slide further in the standings. After last week’s loss dropped them into a tie with the Mambas, this matchup carried major positioning implications, especially with the Cobras already securing a playoff berth with three games remaining.
“The Bulldogs responded like contenders, their guards relentlessly attacked the paint, setting the tone early and putting constant pressure on the defending champions. Jamie Ashton led the assault with an efficient 17 points on 8 for 13 shooting, guiding the Bulldogs to a statement 58 – 45 victory.
“With the win, the Bulldogs reclaim sole possession of second place and reestablish themselves as a serious threat heading into the final stretch of the season.”
