Tennis: Phillips & Tulane Defeat South Alabama
The Tulane University men’s tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over the University of South Alabama at the Goldring Tennis Center, aided by a key doubles performance from Bermudian player Daniel Phillips.
The Green Wave utilized roster depth to overcome the Jaguars, starting the match by clinching the doubles point. Phillips and partner Laine Van Houtte took on the number one doubles position against South Alabama’s Braden Hannig and Adam Bouyacoub. In a match defined by tactical discipline, Phillips and Van Houtte secured a 7-6 tiebreak win to help Tulane take the early lead.
In singles play, Phillips competed in the top slot against Hannig, who entered the match ranked No. 102 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings. Phillips forced a second-set tiebreak but ultimately fell in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6.
