“In announcing the award, the Brown family highlighted the value of supporting Bermudian students who combine academic success with a clear commitment to service.”
Dr Ewart Brown stated, “Education should be regarded as a shared responsibility that benefits the wider community. Supporting students such as Ms Lee contributes to Bermuda’s long-term well-being and resilience; her focus on equity and service reflects the highest ideals of community leadership.”
The spokesperson said, “Zajae Lee was unable to attend the presentation as she is currently overseas. Her sister, Z`ari Lee, accepted the award on her behalf.
“In a statement, Zajae Lee thanked the Brown family for their support and for investing in her future. She said her goal is to improve access to oral healthcare in Bermuda and to promote community-based approaches to overall wellness.”
Z`ari Lee, who accepted the scholarship on behalf of her sister Zajae Lee.
Dr Ewart Brown remarked, “Today, we are proud to recognise Ms Zajae Lee as the 2026 recipient of the Brown Family Scholarship.
“This award honours more than academic success. It recognises dedication, discipline, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Zajae has distinguished herself in each of these areas.
“Zajae Lee, of Pembroke Parish, is a graduate of Saltus Grammar School and has built an exceptional academic record marked by both breadth and distinction.
“She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with History Honours, followed by a Master of Public Health with a focus on Health Equity from Xavier University of Louisiana. This autumn, she will continue her academic and professional journey at Howard University College of Dentistry, where she will pursue a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
“Zajae has contributed to hunger relief initiatives, mentorship programmes, and outreach efforts through organisations including the Hunger Coalition, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and Gina Spence Productions, reflecting a consistent commitment to service both in Bermuda and abroad.
“My wife, Wanda, and I founded this scholarship on the principle that education should serve a broader purpose beyond individual achievement.
“We have always believed that supporting Bermudians who are committed to service is an investment in the strength and future of our country.
“Ms Lee reflects that belief. Her goal of expanding access to oral healthcare in Bermuda and promoting community-based wellness speaks to the kind of leadership we need.
“While Zajae Lee is unable to be with us today, we extend our warmest congratulations and full support as she continues her studies.
“On behalf of my family, I thank everyone here for supporting the next generation of Bermudian healthcare leaders. Thank you.
“I now invite Zajae’s sister, Ms Zari Lee, to come forward to accept the Brown Family Scholarship on her sister’s behalf.”
