Anthony Hull On Tyler Christopher Fight

Coach Anthony Hull believes unbeaten Bermudian boxer Tyler Christopher is ready to take the next step when he faces Portugal’s Mauro Silva in an eight-round middleweight bout in Leeds, England, next month

Christopher [12-0] will meet the undefeated Silva [9-0] at the First Direct Bank Arena on August 8 on a televised Boxxer card headlined by the super-middleweight contest between Callum Simpson and Troy Williamson.

Silva last fought Belarusian Dzmitry Atrokhau in Lancashire in May 2025, earning a points victory.

Hull, head coach at the D&A Boxing School of Excellence in Birmingham, said Christopher, 29, has reached the point in his career where he needs to challenge himself against higher-level opposition.

“He could have taken these fights a long time ago,” Hull told Bernews.

“For some reason, he didn’t have the confidence then. I don’t know why because he has the tools to fight anybody.

“He’s in the gym all the time and he’s learned his craft, but now it’s time to take a risk.

“I told him it was time to take these fights. As both a friend and a coach, I said that if he didn’t want to take opportunities like this, he might as well stop boxing.

“There’s no such thing as the perfect fight, but this is definitely a winnable one.

“His opponent is a good fighter, but he’s been able to dictate his previous fights. Tyler will fight back.”

Hull said Christopher’s unbeaten record and awkward southpaw style had made him a difficult opponent to match.

“Tyler has been avoided a bit,” he said.

“He’s a southpaw, he’s 12-0 and he’s had two stoppages. I think people see him as an awkward fight.

“I would have liked him to take a few more chances two or three fights ago.

“We’re going there to fight and to win. Tyler has to sell himself because it’s part of the sport, and he’s a showman anyway.

“I think his confidence will grow from boxing on a televised card.”

Hull believes the fight could open the door to bigger opportunities for Christopher.

“He probably has about four years left in the sport, and it’s time to make some money as well. He’s invested a lot of himself into this,” he added.

“A Midlands Area title would make Tyler more valuable. He says he doesn’t care about titles, but if the opportunity is there, he should take it.”
