Between 1997 and October 2010 there have been 3572 tips received, 303 arrests made, $51,255 in rewards paid, $1,601,543 worth of property recovered, and $21,877,887 worth of drugs seized, according to statistics from Crime Stoppers Bermuda.

The Crime Stoppers team from Miami-Dade were in Bermuda for the past two days (Dec 2 & 3) to attend an orientation visit and to attend the AGM. The team are part of the group who receive and process all calls coming in from places including Bermuda, Florida, Bahamas, Cayman and Barbados. One of the reasons for gthe visit is to continue to promite the fact that Crime Stoppers offers a completely confidential way to provide assistance to the Police in bringing criminals to justice.

Calls have been taken ranging from reporting on serious crimes to other matters like illegal fish pot locations and activities, immigration infractions, unsavory police officer activity and illegal dumping.

They have a new pamphlet which is being released soon to all Bermuda households containing information on Crime Stoppers and reminding people that no matter how irrelevant the information may seem, it could be the bit of information that is the “missing piece of the puzzle”. The pamphlet includes a fridge magnet showing their phone number and website address.

Chairman of Crime Stoppers Bermuda John Drew said “It’s a fact that, throughout the world where Crime Stoppers programmes are in existence, a caller has never been identified as an individual who passed information to Crime Stoppers. The entire purpose of Crime Stoppers is that individuals can provide information completely anonymously either by telephone or through web-tips.”
