Nahki Wells: ‘Great Opportunity For Me’

January 14, 2011

nahki wells footballBermudian footballer Nahki Wells, who recently signed with UK side Carlisle United, spoke with the team’s website after his first match with the team saying: “It was good to finally get here and start training with all the lads.

“I only trained twice before during my trial spell, once in Morecambe and once in Middlesbrough so it’s been pretty varied for me so far and I’m starting to get a good feel for how the team works.

“It was a tough first session for me but that’s the way I expected it. I’ve got a lot of work to do on building up my fitness as this is the first time I’ve been a full-time professional. I’ve been in Bermuda all my life and started out at a team called Dandy Town Hornets before joining a semi-professional side called the Bermuda Hogges last season.

“In July last year I came over to England and joined an academy which involved taking a University course and playing football. It was a great move for me as it allowed me to continue my education studies as well as play football and adapt to conditions in this country.

“One of my coaches at the academy is good friends with Greg [Abbott] and he recommended that he take a look at me. Thankfully I did enough to impress him during my trial spell and he’s given me an extended chance to show what I’m capable of.

“I’m a forward that usually likes to play off a bigger attacker. I like to run at players and get in behind the defence but I can also come deep for the ball and spread it out wide.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard for my place in the team but hopefully I will get the opportunity to show what I’m capable of.

“The gaffer and the coaching staff have been great to me so far. They’ve encouraged me in every training session and I think I’ve been receptive to that as I realise that this is a great opportunity for me.

“The manager has told me to stay confident and keep working hard so I’ve done that. He’s going to have a chat with me soon about what my aims should be for this season but personally my aims are to work hard to get a place in the team and hopefully scores some goals to help the club push up the table.”
