Parking Meter CCTV Incident: Not Guilty Plea

February 16, 2011

In Magistrates Court this morning [Feb 16], 30-year-old Richard Alan DeSilva faced three charges: being in possession of articles intended for use in the course of a theft; possessing a weapon; and possessing a bladed weapon. He pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

The charges stem from incidents said to have been caught on CCTV cameras that captured activity involving the payparking meters in City Hall Car Park.

Magistrate Warner asked what the weapon was and the Prosecutor said it was a screwdriver. When asked what the bladed weapon was, the Prosecutor said that was a pair of scissors.

The matter was set down for trial on 19 May 2011 and Mr DeSilva was bailed for $2,000.

Yesterday a Police spokesman said that early that morning: “A man was observed on CCTV tampering with the pay & display machines at the City Hall car park in the City of Hamilton. As a result, officers on mobile patrol in the area arrested a 30 year old Sandys parish man at the scene. The suspect was found with a screwdriver and a pair of scissors in his possession. The items were seized as evidence and a court appearance is anticipated in the very near future.”
