Minister Meets With Chamber of Commerce

June 16, 2011

Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief met with the Real Estate Division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce today [June 16] after an invitation from its President, Mr. Leroy Douglas.

The purpose of the meeting was to inform the Minister of the state of the real estate industry and to discuss ways to stimulate this sector of the economy.

“The meeting was informative and productive. The industry’s representatives made an effective presentation on the issues. I committed to an urgent review of our processes to ensure a better balance between the vetting required for license applications and the need to demonstrate our partnership with this important sector of the local economy,” Minister Perinchief said.

The Division’s members also invited the Minister to examine various policies related to the sale and acquisition of property by non-Bermudians and Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) holders.

The Minister observed: “I believe the right balance can be struck in the areas of concern to the industry and will engage the Real Estate Division and other key stakeholders in continuing dialogue to achieve that.”
