Nahki Wells Signs With UK’s Bradford City

July 22, 2011

nahki wells football[Updated] Bermudian footballer Nahki Wells has been awarded a one-year contract with the English football club Bradford City, which is based in West Yorkshire.

The 21-year-old signed the deal – which includes the option for a further year, this morning [July 22].

The former Dandy Town star had been training team since the start of pre-season and scored twice in the Bantams’ opening friendly of the summer at Silsden last week.

Bradford City manager Peter Jackson said: “I’ve been impressed with Nahki since he’s come here. I think anyone who has seen him play in pre-season will say that he has made an impact in the games that he has come into.”

“He will add pace to our squad, and he has League experience from his time with Carlisle. I felt last season we lacked pace, but the introduction of players like Nahki will obviously help to change that.”

After being dropped by Carlisle following a four-month trial with the First Division club, Mr Wells vowed to be back playing professional football in the UK.

Update: You can listen to a four minute audio interview here with Mr Wells that the BBC posted this afternoon.

Update #2: Mr Wells made his debut this evening, coming on as a second half substitute.

well done! finally some talent from bermuda moving in the right direction!

    • Jacob says:

Way off base with that statement. Like you, we are all so very happy to see Nahki get a 2nd shot at professional football. However, he is not alone as Reggie Lambe spent a few years with Ipswich and will likely stick with another pro outfit, Freddy Hall has just signed with Northampton in the UK and we just had another young prospect sign with Derby’s academy team. And less you forget, we have close to 20 players in private schools in the US and as many playing at the college level on athletic (football) scholarships. So well done to all of you young women.

this statement is not way off base. there is an incredible amount of talent in bermuda, but a lot of them waste their talent away, falling into the “bermuda mindset.” i know there are others out there, but there could be sooo many more.

        • wakeup says:

and well done to all those who are pushing forward. making bermuda proud.

        • Jacob says:

It is way off base and at some point we will accept that for an island of about 50,000 Bermudians, we punch way above our weight. The Bermuda mindset? What’s that and how is it any different to other countries? Bermuda is the size of a small, very samll town in any major country. Make the comparisons to any and you will quickly come to the conslusion that our kids are performing well. I also think that you have to accept that while there are more that could have reached higher levels, there haven’t been that many more. Don’t confuse technical ability with being a complete player or a player that top college coaches or professional teams want.

          no seriously..way off base…

anyways, everyone has their opinion….the fact is this young man (and all the young men and women who are making something of their talents) should be applauded. well done to all of you.
