November 29, 2011

The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International [HSMAI] will recognise the Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] with a Bronze Adrian Award for public relations excellence for its winning entry in the 55th Annual Adrian Awards, the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition globally.

This year’s contest attracted nearly 1,000 entries from around the world, with entries judged by top executives from all sectors of the industry.

On February 27, 2012, HSMAI will pay tribute to the BDOT during the Annual HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala, a black-tie affair attended by more than 1,000 hospitality, travel and tourism marketing executives at the New York Marriott Marquis.

The award was given for the BDOT’s efforts in arranging a guerrilla marketing event at New York City’s iconic Grand Central Terminal on March 30, 2011.

Former Tourism Minister Patrice Minors On The Grand Central Station Event:

Minister of Business Development & Tourism Wayne Furbert said yesterday [Nov. 28], “We are honoured to receive an award from such an esteemed organisation as HSMAI.

“Having the event at such a high profile locale such as Grand Central Station in our top feeder market of New York City was a great way to promote our island to a key demographic and provide a virtual showcase for our destination to the thousands of commuters travelling in and out of New York City that day.

“We are very grateful to our partners who worked with us and accept this award with tremendous gratitude.”

The event took place in historic Vanderbilt Hall and included a live band, on-air interviews with CBS Radio and WPIX-TV personalities, performances by Bermuda’s Gombey Dancers, a Bermuda shorts fashion show, a special Bermuda “Feel the Love Flash Mob” and vacation giveaways.

Hotels including Grotto Bay Beach Resort, Fairmont Hotels, Rosewood Tucker’s Point and Elbow Beach Bermuda also provided representatives for the day to help serve as Bermudian ambassadors.

Fran Brasseux, HSMAI executive vice president added, “The bar is continuously set higher each year in regards to the quality of Adrian Awards submissions we receive. This year’s winners have made their mark in travel advertising, public relations, and digital marketing. We look forward to showcasing this exemplarily work with the industry and recognizing the remarkable winners at the Adrian Awards Gala.”
