‘No Point In Commenting On Dr Brown’s Feud’

April 12, 2012

The One Bermuda Alliance said they see “no point in commenting on Dr. Brown’s feud with the Governor and his criticism of the Bermuda-British connection,” as they are “concentrating on what really matters to the people of Bermuda today.”

Earlier this week former Premier Dr Ewart Brown held a press conference, saying that Governor Sir Richard Gozney has failed in his duty, and has “harmed the people of Bermuda…”

Dr Brown said that at his request his legal team has written to the British Foreign Office “setting out what we perceive as Governor Gozney’s chief sins of omission and commission during his tenure.”

The former Premier requested that the British Foreign Officer secure the full cooperation of Canada in investigating the cheque forgery, “admonish” the Governor, and ensure that there is “no repetition of such behaviour”.

An OBA spokesperson said, “The OBA sees no point in commenting on Dr. Brown’s feud with the Governor and his criticism of the Bermuda-British connection. We are concentrating on what really matters to the people of Bermuda today.

“They face a shocking array of challenges – unemployment, diminishing paycheques, house invasions, gang shootings, stalled education reform, massive government debt.

“The OBA is focused on doing what needs to be done to meet these challenges to make the lives of Bermudians safer and more secure. Anything else is just a distraction.”

Attempts by Bernews over the past two days to get a comment on Dr Brown’s statement from the Governor, Premier Paula Cox and the Progressive Labour Party were unsuccessful.

Update 1.54pm: The Premier was questioned about Dr Brown’s statements during a PLP candidate announcement today, a video of her reply is here.

Great stance, very appropriate – and right too.

    • all clogged up says:

yeah…..I think he’s tryna create another election scapegoat to deflect the obvious voter disgruntlement….only the very niave will be baited into the latest pre-election ploy. The ‘plantation’ vote scheme worked very well the last time, and look where we all ended up collectively…..black and white.
Whomever decided their vote on that platform must be feeling pretty used up by now.

      • Maddog says:

IF THE GOVERNOR WAS BLACK THE RACIST OBA/ UBP WOULD HAVE A COMMENT THEY HAVE
        NO GUTS.

        • Limey says:

Seems our Premier hasnt commented either on the matter, SHE HAS NO GUTS as well does she??

          • Maddog says:

            Who is this racist pig?

            • Hmmmm says:

You are, and it is nothing to boast about.

            • LOL (original TM*) says:

You are a shinning example of PLP supporter Maddog can we assume that you speak for the PLP supporters at least that blog? Do you represent the views of those that attend CC meetings?

              LOL

        • So sad says:

The most racist people are the ones that continue to call racism at every opportunity they can.

          Idiotic, ignorant people like you.

  2. good governance says:

Of course the OBA would take that point of view due the FACTS that they for all of Ewart’s Premiership been complaining to the Governor to get rid of the PLP government, sanction Ewart, call in for an inquiry of the PLP government. The Governor had the good sense of not entertaining the UBP/OBA nor Ewart nonsense. Some OBA politicians are noted to complain in cocktail circles of how this governor is not doing due diligence to rid Bermuda of the PLP government.

Governor Gozney is one of the best Governor’s Bermuda has had. Until we all elect to go Independent, we will have a governor appointed by the Queen. We were fortunate to get a governor who worked and lived extensively in Africa and not only appreciated but have a great deal of respect for African and Asian cultures. He will be a true miss. God Blessings to Sir Richard and his family!

  3. Tolerate says:

Way to go, don’t take the bait. I however think it is important the Premier (PLP) DO make a comment and soon.

    • Pastor Syl says:

@ Tolerate: ” I however think it is important the Premier (PLP) DO make a comment and soon. I couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly! The silence on that front is positively deafening.

    • Tolerate says:

Wait… Hot off the press; we have a response. As expected; “I don’t think there is any need for comment”. Was this basically what the OBA said earlier? Guess it worked for them. Difference is it was not THIER member (past Premier) who said it. Worth 46 seconds of her time. Had no intention to comment unless pressed.

  4. What Next? says:

what a coward – why wait until the Governor is about to leave the island and launch an attack with an issue that should have been done when the ex-Premier was in office and the Governor could actually do something about it, (if he wanted to.)

  5. NO OBA Vote says:

The cowards are the OBA for not wanting to insult their traditionally European voting supporters. OBA are pretending on this one to win traditionally PLP voters by keeping quite, but we are not buying into this WE WILL BE VOTING AND ITS NOT FOR THE OBA conservative, no experience colts and wishy washy candidates.

    • Wandering says:

I think you missed the announcement earlier this week by Premier Cox – ROLF COMMISSIONg will be running in a Pembroke Consituency and you want to call who an unexperienced colt and wishy washy. WTH!!

    • Hmmmm says:

PLP followed the OBA… Really shows you and your closed mind for all to see. I hope, just a crack of light is let in from this to show you what you have become and how wrong it is.

  6. What about the People says:

That statement from the OBA speaks VOLUMES

“They face a shocking array of challenges – unemployment, diminishing paycheques, house invasions, gang shootings, stalled education reform, massive government debt.”

THEY, which is typical thinking of UBP and now OBA (don’t say its not the same party, as it sure as hell is the same person writing the press releases). THEY is used as the OBA don’t feel the pain, they just want to help cause it and then capitalise off of it.

THEY is used becuase the OBA people have NO issue with unemployment (OBA sit in the boardrooms and export their call centers to fatten their divdend cheques)

THEY have no issue with diminishing paycheques (note before, the just outsource bermudian jobs to make up for it)

THEY have no issue with home invasions as I’m sure it would have been reported if an OBA politicians house had been broken into. On that note does ANYONE beleive these attacks are random?

THEY have no issue with gang shootings, as they don’t seem to happen in their enclaves.

THEY have no issue with “stalled reform” as all their kids are not in the Public system that doens’t get to pick and chose who they should educate.

The word they is completely appropriate, becuase the OBA don’t have a clue about what the people of bermuda or as the OBA refer to as THEY are going through.

If you don’t know me OBA, you cannot represent me. I’ll keep being a THEY!

    • Sandgrownan says:

Well that’s a whole pile of stupid right there.

      • jt says:

        Yup.

        • Come correct says:

You can’t fix stupid, just let him be and maybe he’ll run off a cliff with the rest.

      • Pastor Syl says:

@ Sandgrownan et al: I really wish you would refrain from name-calling and put-downs, and instead deal with the statements. SHOW why those statements are not valid – because they aren’t, and are easy to refute. But calling people “stupid” makes you look bad, is offensive and sets people’s backs up. It actually can be quite counter-productive.

        • Finally left! says:

Pastor Syl, while i do agree with the notion of what you are saying, there are some people/arguments that cannot be refuted simply because of the irrationality of both the comment and the person..

People ere complaining about how EB and Wanda got their houses, and he comes back saying they are sexist and racist

Maddog and others liek specialgirl4you constantly talk about how white people think, and how racist white people are because they disagree with EB and PLP…

Proof is in the pudding is the same way..

When someone like What about the People takes the word “they”, totally omitting the fact that it was used to describe “bermudians”, he/she/they are deliberately trying to make something out of nothing..

he/she/they WANT the comment to seem like something its not..

They could say 2+2=5, and i would be racist to disagree..

sad, but reality. some people just talk stupid.

    • Moment to moment says:

Just out of curiosity …… If the OBA/UBP don’t represent you, then what do you stand for? Does that mean the PLP represent you? Does that mean you agree with how the PLP has been running Bermuda??

    • Bermyman says:

They are the Government in power who are in charge of correcting the problems you speak of. The OBA have no power so they cannot make policies to correct them. At the same time many of those problems have manifested themselves under the PLP’s watch. If anyone has failed the common person it is the PLP.

You may have something against people who are successful in life, that is your own personal chip on shoulder. But at the end of the day there are plenty of people in both parties that sit on boards and send their kids to private schools. The main issue is who is doing a good job and who is not. The PLP at the moment are not performing. THEY!! are the ones who take tax payers dollars and use them as their own personal accounts. THEY are the reason we have less money available for social welfare and worthwhile community support projects.

100′s of million in overrun costs where we don’t know how those costs spiraled out of control. THEY are the ones who are robbing the common man.

Home invasions affect everyone. If this Island looses itself to crime we will have not tourism and no international business so everyone better take up farming.

    • Wandering says:

oh and you live with them all – right? Don’t you remember the saying “You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors” – somewhere it was reported there were secret meetings going on at the hospital on Saturdays – secrets are things you do iwhen you think nobody is looking and end up in the daily or on facebook.

    • Finally left! says:

Not to be rude… but to be to the point..

you are helpign keep this island as ignorant as it is..
why dont you use the whole statement?

“. We are concentrating on what really matters to the people of Bermuda today.
“They face a shocking array of challenges – unemployment, diminishing paycheques, house invasions, gang shootings, stalled education reform, massive government debt. ”

THEY is a word for the Bermudian People… It’s basic comprehension.

if you are a person of bermuda, then yes, you very much are part of “they”.. baffling but not shocking how people can turn that into some us vs them statement….

If i said “what about the people made a rediculous statement. He should be ashamed”.. … are you hurt that i called you HE? am i a bad person because i called you HE??? becuase that is exactly the same way THEY is used in this statement

      Open your damn eyes

  7. Family Man says:

Paula had to wait and see what the OBA reply was before she could speak.

    Leading from the rear again.

  8. Just One says:

I’m confused, wasn’t the governor on HOTT1075 just the other day saying that the allegations against Ewart were false and should be fully investigated and prosecuted? Why did Ewart go all cry baby against the governor?

I guess the OBA doesn’t really care about the fued because Ewart is gone and soon so will the governor….

You people can fight about which party is the best for Bermuda, but the end of the day it’s about which individual candidates are trustworthy, honest, etc etc. May the candidates with the most integrity win the next election, that’s all I can say…

  9. NO to OBA says:

@just 1 – then it certainly won’t be the PLP/OBA members whose integrity is below the gutter you should support. Yes the same person is writing press releases for OBA and now getting paid big bucks. Heard OBA have more $$$s than brains right now due to the fact of old UBP supporters are throwin down cash expecting in kind receipts after next election.

  10. specialgirl4you says:

OBA/UBP YOU FORGOT to tell your trolls and fans the same message. They took out time to make comments in regards to Dr.Brown. This suggest he man can still demand attention from the OBA/UBP. Well…..he is still got it !!

    • all clogged up says:

and I’ll vote for poop on a stick before I vote for people that sat around in cabinet and back bench and did nothing whilst the country was intentionally drowned in debt, unruly behavior and xenophobia….did you notice I didn’t even have to mention all the allegations! that doesn’t matter as it seems there is none…only unethical behavior….hahahahaahahahah special gurl, yeah right

    • Argosy says:

Your gray matter obviously matches your grammar!

      • Finally left! says:

..shouldnt say gray… she’ll think its a shade of black and call you racist.

        • Argosy says:

The cog or someone said everyone’s heart’s red so we’re safe referring to internal body parts now so no worries, mate!

    • Hmmmm says:

Yawn…school yard banter from the Special.

  11. Cancer says:

Specialgirl there you go again – your on each post spreading your PLP nonsense that no one wants to hear please give it a break women you are the only one that believes in Dr Brown. Once again take of those blinders off that you wear on a daily basis. One wonders how you can see in front of you because the blinders you wear must have holes in each corner! All day you say the same thing.. UBP/OBA – trolls – higher level of debate – hiding in cyber space – goodness woman give it a break and find something else to say. Hearing you talk live must be a bletty nightmare!!!!! Eeekk!!!!

  12. No to OBA says:

Special gurl, I am speaking of all the ones that got voted in UBP that are now PLP and OBA – girl you really special eh?

    • specialgirl4you says:

Maybe you need to ask the bigger questions…..Why did many of the UBP MPs move across the floor to join the PLP? The answer does not bode well for the OBA/UBP. The same reason still exists today. They were not valued for their abilities, talent, intellect, or their capabilities; rather they faced the evilness of racism and white supremacy within the UBP/OBA. So they finally decided it was better to be home with the PLP. So I would not brag about this, as it leaves lots of mud on the faces of the OBA/UBP.

  13. star man says:

That is the most illiterate tripe I have ever heard spewed against the OBA! What ignorance you PLP lot speak!… no wonder the Island is done in.

  14. specialgirl4you says:

The trolls have not listen to their leader once again, instead folks like Cancer can not help himself, he is so consumed with hater and racism that he is locked in a time warp, not able to move forward….

  15. Limey says:

Anyone else had enough of the daily BS that goes on, on this island, i think everyone should pack their bags and head back to their descendants homeland, spend two to three months there and realise actually how fortunate and how greatful we should be to live on this island. I know i will hate to live in South London again!!

    • Finally left! says:

      funny you say that.

I moved to chester UK.. things didnt work out so i moved to birmingham (makes it easy for me to say Birmy)..

yes jobwise is tough, but have no intention whatsoever of moving back any time soon.

Suppose if you really are a limey.. then its a case of “grass is greener”… Ive been there for 30 years… adn im so glad to be away. whether thats because of the current climate, or just cause ive been there long enoguh and want to explore more, i dont know…. but i can unequivocally say that the notion that people that move way from bermuda will want to come back is definitely NOT a certain thing.
