Video: BDOT Promote 2012 Cup Match Events

July 16, 2012

The Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] today [July 16] released the on-island schedule of events and activities during the Cup Match Holiday.

A Ministry spokesperson said, “Following the successful promotion of Cup Match Summer Splash held last year, BDOT is again sponsoring local events and activities as an added incentive for visitors during the holiday weekend. Last year, more than 1,000 visitors took advantage of Cup Match Visitors Stall and the two BDOT hosted cruises were well attended.”

Business Development and Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert said: “We have organized and sponsored these events so that during the Cup Match holiday our visitors will have plenty to see and do and more importantly engage in the festivities with locals and enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of Cup Match in Bermuda.”

He added, ”We hope Bermudians will encourage their friends overseas to come to Bermuda and enjoy Cup Match and take advantage of the events and activities that will be held on-island to enhance our visitors experience.”

The spokesperson continued saying: “Again this year, BDOT in conjunction with the Bermuda Hotel Association will host the visitor stall at the Annual Cup Match at Somerset Cricket Club on August 2nd and 3rd. On both days of the match, visitors can sit in the specially designated area and enjoy the game, beverages and festivities.

“On Thursday, August 2, the Department will host a visitor’s tent at BeachFest where guests can enjoy a complimentary seating area and refreshments. BDOT is an official sponsor of the very popular BeachFest and Soca vs Reggae concert and party at the Royal Naval Dockyard on Friday, August 5.

“The weekend of on-island events will culminate with two free cruises for visitors only. On Saturday, August 4th, the Department will host a Sunset Swizzle Cruise and on Sunday, August 5th a cruise to view and enjoy the festivities at the Non-Mariners Race and raft-up in Mangrove Bay.

“In order to attend the cruises, visitors must RSVP to tcthompson@gov.bm by July 31. To promote these events, BDOT has released a Cup Match Summer Splash video with music by O’Neil Swaby [Seen above].

  1. Seriously though says:

NO original ideas from BDOT, just asking local promoters for a piggy back!!

  2. Limey says:

Ive added the link to facebook, so all my friends see it in the UK , we have to boost tourism as a whole, i love this island!!!

  3. Triangle Drifter says:

The biggest complaint visitors have about Cup Match is that the Island closes down. NOTHING is open. A few have an interest in the game because it involves a bat & a ball but face it, watching grass grow is more exciting than cricket. They want a result in a couple of hours like any team sport worth watching.

The non mariners promotion might work but only because so little else is available that weekend.
