Flu Express Starts This Weekend

October 26, 2012

The flu vaccine has now arrived on-island, the Department of Health reports. Therefore, the Flu Express will take place beginning tomorrow [Oct 27].

The Flu Express is a convenient “drive through” way for persons 10 years and older to receive the flu vaccine. The cost is $10.00 per shot for adults and children, while seniors [65 and older] receive it for free.

Members of the public are asked to dress comfortably to allow the Nurse easy access to the injection site in the upper arm and to have the correct amount of cash ready as credit/debit card facilities will not be available.

The Minister of Health Zane De Silva said: “The influenza vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine that protects against influenza. Influenza illness can be serious for very young children, seniors and persons with chronic health problems which is why it is important to prevent its occurrence.

“With the increased uptake of the vaccine each year Bermuda has seen a decline in the incidence of influenza in the community.”

The chance of contacting flu and other upper respiratory infections can also be reduced by frequent and thorough hand washing, ‘covering’ coughs and sneezes and avoiding crowded places.

“Flu Express” will be available between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. at these locations:

  1. Skeptic says:

Is this any connection to the Sea Express??

  2. Kathy says:

Isn’t there mercury in these shots – still trying to figure out how this is better than getting the flu?

  3. um just saying says:

ALL THESE SHOTS R BS… TAKE ME BK 2 THE DAYS WHEN EVERYTHING WAS NATURAL AND DIFFERENT HERBS AND PLANTS CURE…. NOW WE HAVE ALL THESE MAN MADE DISEASES THAT NEED MAN MADE VACCINES…. SMH BUNCH OF BS

    • Come Correct says:

+1 people didn’t live as long back in the day like they do now with modern medicine…yet tribes in the Amazon have elders…I know of a yoga master who last I checked a few years ago was 115 and to my knowledge he’s not dead yet, looks like hell but not dead yet.

  4. Tired Mum says:

Remind me again how many people died in the flu epidemic of 1918? Oh that’s right. More than was killed in combat in the entire war. Just a thought…
I’m waiting for the regular poster to put up their usual diatribe about what BS shots are. He/she does it every year. Just wait for it…

    • I hate needles too , but ...... says:

Just as a backup for TM, these vaccines were invented for a reason and for the most part they work.
Look what they’ve done to Polio as an example.

I come into contact with a lot of people, dirty door knobs and shared ball point pens but I’ve been getting my flu shot for 17 years now and have only had one mild cold in all that time.

Coincidence or not ? All I know is I’ll be at the Rubber tree on Wednesday !

  5. Bermuda Girl says:

My MD has said flu shots are worthless. By the time u get the shot the newer and better flu bug is already out there. Besides. he said, there is the “herd theory”. If most people around you are protected, you don’t need the shot. Maybe very compromised people benefit. But if you are in decent health, don’t inject ANY strange things into your body. Except the shingles vaccine. That is the exception to the rule for older people.

  6. Rumandcoke says:

Just hope that BDA has not received the vaccine supply that has just been withdrawn this week in Canada.
It would be helpful if the Health Department could make a statement about where the vaccine now being used in BDA has been sourced.
