Robin Meade Attending Grand Slam Pro-Am

October 15, 2012

Robin Meade, host of HLN’s Morning Express, told her worldwide audience today [Oct 15] that she’s going to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda next week where she will play in the Pro-Am alongside Masters Champ Bubba Watson.

“Robin is new to golf and has instantly become a great ambassador for the game,” said David Charles, Senior Director of Championships for The PGA of America.

“She could not hide her excitement this morning when she revealed she’d be paired with Bubba Watson in Bermuda. As our President Allen Wronowski has said, ‘Robin’s enthusiasm for the game is infectious’.”

Robin Meade has teamed up with The PGA of America and pga.com to further encourage the participation of women in golf. Each day this week, through her show “Morning Express with Robin Meade”, Robin is sharing her golf experience with viewers.

She is particularly targeting new golfers like herself. The segments will also appear on pga.com. See a clip from this morning’s show here.

“I can’t believe it took me so long to even try golf,” said Meade. “I used to mutter under my breath if my husband had a charity tournament to play. Now I’m looking to see what I can play in next. I’m definitely not the future Annika, but I’m loving the game, the social connection, and the challenge.”

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf Pro-Am takes place Monday, October 22 at Port Royal Golf Course.

Golf Channel personalities Gary Williams, host of Morning Drive, and Michael Breed, host of The Fix, are also on the scorecard for the Pro-Am Monday, as is golf legend Ian Baker-Finch, the 1991 Open Champion and Grand Slam TNT broadcast commentator.

The Pro-Am gives fans an opportunity to see the year’s best golfers in a relaxed setting playing alongside local and international celebrities. Spectators are permitted to request autographs, take pictures, and in some cases, chat with participants.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf will feature 2012 major champions Bubba Watson (Masters), Webb Simpson (US Open), Ernie Els (Open Championship) and 2011 Grand Slam defending champion Keegan Bradley. All four professionals are scheduled to participate in the Pro-Am.

Tickets are still available for the Pro-Am on October 22, as well as the two days of competition on October 23 and 24. Tickets can be purchased at the Port Royal Golf Course, online at pga.com and at the Washington Mall on Wednesday between 11:30am and 2:00pm. Individual day tickets are $20 and weeklong passes sell for $50. Fans who buy tickets in advance get two for the price of one.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features the most difficult qualification requirement in the game – a major championship. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000, second place $300,000 third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
