Tom Pettit Thanksgiving Essay Contest Finalists

The judging panel in the 15th Annual Tom Pettit Thanksgiving Essay Competition has reviewed all the entries and selected the finalists.

All senior school students were eligible to enter with the chance to win the first prize of a $1,000 grant. The six finalists will receive “Commendation of Excellence” awards and a $500 grant. Each student’s school will receive a matching grant.

Premier Paula Cox will host the awards reception at Camden on Wednesday, the 21st of November at 4pm to announce the winners.

The finalists are:

  • Allanna Bean The Berkeley Institute
  • Sophie Booth-Kempe Bermuda High School For Girls
  • Husna Farooqui Cedarbridge Academy
  • Cameron Forbes Learning Express Academy
  • Caroline Skinner Bermuda High School For Girls
  • Shamari Smith The Berkeley Institute
  • Keira Whited Mount Saint Agnes Academy

This year’s judges were: Nadia Arandjelovic, Royal Gazette Lifestyle Reporter; Raymond Hainey, Bermuda Sun Senior reporter; well-known educator, Mrs. Florenz Maxwell; and Attorney General Kim Wilson.

This educational initiative to foster writing excellence is generously funded by [Partners] Edmund Gibbons Ltd and Tokio Millennium Re and [Supporter] Orbis Investment Management as well as a private benefactor.
