Fire: No Suspicious Circumstances Or Victims

The police said there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire at the old Canadian Hotel building last week, and also confirmed that no one was injured.

On Wednesday [Dec 19] evening, twenty-five firefighters battled the blaze, which sent smoke emanating over parts of Hamilton.

A police spokesperson said: “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm that no one was injured due to the fire at the old Canadian Hotel building on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton that occurred around 10:20pm Wednesday, December 19th.

“A thorough search of the building was recently completed, which involved the use of excavating machinery to sift through debris within the structure. There were no victims found and there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”

    OK, so if it was not arson (why bother, no insurance), not faulty wiring (power not on), how did it start?

    Vagrants in the building? Things just don’t burst into flame.
