Court: Man Jailed 12 Weeks After Leaving Prison

January 22, 2013

In Magistrates Court yesterday [Jan 21], Jamal Fray, 39, pleaded guilty to robbing a man of $1,000. A few weeks after his release from prison in October 2012, he forced a man to withdraw money from the ATM after threatening to stab him.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that Fray had accosted the victim, threatened to stab him, and got him to go a nearby ATM and withdraw $1,000. Fray then took the cash from him – and counted it out.

The victim reported the matter. Fray was arrested by Police in January 2013 and told the police that he had borrowed $750 from the victim. Police arranged an ID parade and the victim positively identified Fray on that parade.

Initially Fray — who was assisted by Duty Counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson — had pleaded not guilty. However on hearing that he was to be remanded into custody until a May trial, Fray asked to change his plea. The Senior Magistrate agreed to this, and Fray changed his original not guilty plea to ‘guilty’.

The Senior Magistrate considered Fray’s previous criminal record and Fray’s own admission during this hearing that he had just been released from Westgate in October 2012. He remanded Fray into custody until his sentencing date in late February 2013 and ordered a Social Inquiry Report.

I thought robbing someone with a bladed article was an immediate custodial sentence, correct me if I’m wrong.

BTW a SIR is a complete waste of the public purse when these monies could be used to support seniors, homeless, employment seekers etc. the list is endless.

When Fray was counting the money, the victim should have grabbed the knife from him and put it straight his f*%#ing forehead. He would have got his money back and we wouldn’t have to pay for this piece of sh*t up at Westgate Villas.

He doesn’t need a social inquiry report. He had only been out for 12 weeks, they know what he was up to before and was probably back to where he left off before he was caught for his previous sentence. This leopard clearly hasn’t changed his spots. His picture and record should be on display so that everyone can know this rat. Also, if the cat o nine tails were in use, I’m sure him, and a few others wouldn’t be part of the revolving door rascals in westgate. Clearly he doesn’t mind being there, so know its time to make it harder for him.

CAT & NINE TAILS = a very nice well behaved boy.
